Dont think its fair to dunk on the guy for "not watching tape" when all tape is showing their best moments. This is a 3 borderline 4 star that has come in and lit the program on fire. Would find it relatively surprising if anyone saw this level of hype coming

And yes I have watched tape. In fact, I was one of the few people around here reminding the board that we have two solid four-stars coming when people like Dame Sarr were playing footsie with the coaches and causing everyone panic.

Not playing AAU, Wagler didn't have the exposure as most kids. Great job by staff identifying and getting him to CU.

My opinion is that it shouldn’t matter if we have injuries and if we are playing a good MVC team… we should win. If we are going to televise (even just on BIG+) AND even if we are going to have experimental lineups we should plan to win. Other top tier programs like Duke, KU, UConn, etc would not show up the attitude that they might lose an exhibition to Illinois st because of X, Y, and Z.


I’m obviously not saying it’s a “must win.” But it certainly is a “definitely should win.”

Agree. This is a weird one for me, I'm a long time staff member at ISU and I love and respect the school that employs me... but my heart is with my alma mater in sports and particularly in basketball. It is a well known love at work, and so I will literally never hear the end of it if we don't beat ISU.

The difference between this game and the same played in 2019 is soooo different.

We have dudes who were literal pros in Europe..it's one thing to get knocked off by a lower level team that has chemistry and years together. It's just different when it involves grown men who spent multiple years traveling to former Soviet states to play former college stars and other Euros.

Also, those lower level teams get picked apart in the portal as we've seen. Feels like less and less early season upsets every year because of the growing disparity of haves and have nots.

1. Aside from renewing my B1+ sub for early season Illini basketball, per usual, what app do I need to get this game on my Roku box?
2. Will this work in Prague? I lack the skill to funnel Roku thru a VPN.

1. Just use the “Search” function on the left side menu of the Roku home page (or whatever it is called). All you have to do is type in “B” and “1” (number 1), and it should pop up. I just tried it that way. You might have to add the “G”, too, but I didn’t.
2. No idea whether it will work in Prague, but it isn’t hard to do it through a VPN. If you have a VPN installed and set up you just have to have it connect to a location in the US. Should work. Probably. I once connected to the UK to watch something on the BBC or maybe another British TV station.

Edit: Actually, I just re-read your post and noticed you said “Roku through a VPN”. I did the UK connection on my computer and then streamed it to my TV. So, that might be a little more complicated. I was in Portugal last April, and I was able to watch RiffTrax movies there by just opening the RiffTrax app and putting in my credentials. No VPN needed. But that was on my iPad, and every company/app might be different in regard to letting one watch from a foreign country.

By the way, jealous that you are in Prague. It is on my bucket list.

The first three on your list may not play or maybe play a limited number of minutes due to injuries, and in the case Ivisic, tonsillitis, but there is no reason not to play Petrovic and I believe one of the insiders said that Wagler would start but Petrovic would play 20 to 25 minutes.

Haven't heard much talk regarding Brandon Lee, but I see him being a key player in year 2. One of those players who competed in a ton of high level AAU and high school bball. His measurables as a PG and combo guard are good, hope he buys into the development of the program. Can see possibly seeing breaking into more minutes due to matchups, injuries, foul trouble.

One advantage of being both retired and on vacation is that you completely lose all sense of time.

It turns out that I cannot reach the B1G network even to resume my B1G+ subscription. Doubtless I can solve the sub problem with a VPN, but based on prior research I am confident that solving the Roku VPN problem is beyond my skillset, especially since my Czech toolbox consists entirely of a pair of Pixel cellphones.

I may be reduced to learning how to watch live TV on my cellphone. I hate this little screen so I will try casting to the TV in this apt if it happens to be connected to the same wifi network I am on. Or does using a VPN mean I will always be on.a different network?

If needs be, you can always watch the "live stats" option. It's not the same, of course, but better than nothing. I have done that several times over the years, not just for the beloved, but on occasion, other teams as well.

If winning the game is a BU priority, we better come locked and loaded. ISU is expected to be very good this year. They are a veteran team who won't be intimidated no matter who they play or where.

I generally listen via the Varsity app. I like that app because they have most major college football and hoops games.

Three weeks ago, I was driving two hours home on Saturday night and listened to either PSU-Oregon or Iowa State-Arizona on the drive.

VPN means you'll appear to be on a different network, but you should be able to cast to your TV.

That only issue I've had casting BTN+ to my TV is that it lags sometimes, but that could just be a BTN+ issue

ISU just released their inactives for tomorrow. No Chase Walker and No Johnny Kinzinger for recovery from minor injuries they sustained in the last couple of weeks. Bummer, but makes sense for the team as there is no point in risking it in a game that doesn’t count, also they have an exhibition against northwestern next week, so maybe they will play in that.
