Same. Not his fault that Bielema panicked and promoted him. Unfortunate he was in over his head and now has to go because of the HC's mistake
Was that really a panic move? When you panic and hire a guy he's gone within a year. I'll eat crow when I'm wrong but I genuinely believe that Bret saw something in him to believe that he would be a good hire.

I’m sure BB saw something in him but he was promoted so he wouldn’t follow Walters to purdue. I’ve said it several times but BB dropped the ball by not giving him someone with DC experience on the staff. Realistically tough in 3 years as a dc what oc with a pulse hasn’t shredded this defense.

I mean, Walters was actively recruiting staff on his way out and him and Henry were close. Promoting him may well have been the only surefire way to keep him from going to Purdue.

I think Walter's is a dbag but I gotta say one thing about him he's not afraid to swing for the fence, pretty much every down. If Henry just applied that mentality 25% of the time our defense would be a lot better off.

The DC experience on the staff was Bret Bielema. Certainly a mentor to Henry.

Yeah but he has an entire team to worry about not just 1 side of the ball. Obviously he hasn’t helped with in game coaching. Before we had Buh and Kane. Also Jimmy Leonhard helped during the week.

Maybe we go back to seeing more sub packages

it’s basically impossible Bret would keep Ahen after this year , correct ?

it’s not working really at any position group on D and it’s crystal clear serious changes need to be made and that has to start at the DC .

Would have been better if Bret had just wished Henry well as he headed off.

Our major sports sure do have an issue with coaches focusing on defense. We can only hope Bret’s connections can land a good DC. The program is in a place where that should be a higher probability than having to hire a newbie.

At the time, the move was viewed very positively. Our 2022 secondary play was truly elite, and AHen deservedly got a lot of credit for it. As it turns out, it was a bad decision. It happens; time to move on
