Pump the breaks on your comment. We were a team that last year hoisted 25+ threes per game last year and our fans ALWAYS would say we got homered, even at home. There will be a game like that this year and we need to pin your disagreement as a reminder.

I am in 100% full agreement with your analysis. Our fans would be having a STROKE if we lost and had that foul disparity despite your accurate statement.

Some semblance of a semi-balanced take after a win is not “weird.” Weird is being unable to take a tolerate anything with just a whiff of moderation after a good win. Are the only posts of sheer unadulterated joy allowed, otherwise they get a citation from the take police?

I think it counts as a flagrant as soon as Boswell unnecessarily wraps his arms about him.
Right, by the way rule is worded I agree. My point is, if he doesn’t flop right front of their bench and get protests from the coaches does it get reviewed at all? If the whistle blows and he hands the ball to the ref does it go any further? I mean, good on him for the acting job, could have changed the outcome of a close game.

I actually disagree vehemently- One team attacked the entire game.. the other shot 3 and deep hook shots. Texas Tech was also undersized at a few positions and consistently reached on drives. It was unbalanced because of the teams, not bad officiating (though the officiating was atrocious). Still weird take after a win like that

3 points attempts were the same (22 vs 22). Texas Tech had more shot attempts in the paint.

Texas Tech had 20 assists.
IL had 5.

Stats don’t lie. Texas Tech shot 4 FTs for the entire game.

Toppin himself had 25 Shot Attempts. He shot 1 FT for the entire game. I’ve never seen an offensive player attempt 25 shots and shoot 1 FT. And it’s not like those shots were outside shots. He attempted 2 threes.

Reverse these team stats and this thread would be talking about the worst officiating in years especially if it had been in TT’s home court

How do the refs not understand the game situation with the flagrant on Boswell?
How do they not understand what the Illini would attempt to do?

Nuts.
That foul is committed EXACTLY like KB executed it a couple of thousand times a year in college hoops and is considered a common foul even though intentional. That they thought it was flagrant is an egregious error even though it was obvious that KB was trying to hold him up. It was obvious on replay that the TT player collapsed to the floor immediately after KB let go even though he was not off balance but trying to draw the foul. That referee should be banned for the season as there should not have been even a video review with three guys watching. They acted like none of them saw the play in the first place.

Def tired & played like a freshman. His shots were all short in the 2nd half & every one of those TOs were about him playing too fast.

That said, had to fill in at the 5 and didn't foul. Excited for what he will look like EOY.
I thought this was a good learning game for both Mirk and Wagler. To me seemed like both got sped up a bit and tried to do too much at times. Definitely plenty of good there tonight to build upon though. To come away with a win with them both having to play so much is big, and this game will serve them well down the road.

What tangible plays do you vividly remember were obvious fouls on us that didn't get called? They had 18 fouls to our 8- primarily because we didn't reach- as a matter of fact, I wish we would've been more physical with Toppin. Free throw imbalance doesn't inherently mean bad officiating.

We had 5 assists on 29 made fgs. But I read somewhere that we don't have anyone who can get their own shot. How did we score?
Your post isn't a positive thing. Those stats will get us beat most nights, just not tonight. I'm sure Brad isn't thrilled about it because it means the offense wasn't run how it was intended. No coach draws up 24 unassisted baskets.

any home cooking we may have gotten was completely wiped out on that flagrant call

We didn't aggressively alter his shot enough. He might have gotten to 35 but he would've had to do it one point at a time if we did. There's this improper assumption that fans have that fouls either need to be even or predominantly in favor of the winning team if theyre far superior. It's more so dictated by both the offensive and defensive styles of the respective teams.

For everyone who thinks that should not have been a flagrant foul:

Intentionally grabbing a player is considered a flagrant foul, likely a Flagrant 1, because it involves unnecessary and excessive contact that is not a legitimate basketball play. The specific call depends on the severity: a Flagrant 1 involves unnecessary contact, while a Flagrant 2 involves brutal or dangerous contact. In either case, the opposing team gets two free throws and possession of the ball.
Just absolutely no bro. That would make every take foul at the end of the game a flagrant foul. That was just a TERRIBLE call

Once healthy what will Ty’s role be? Who will he take minutes from?

He was making every shot - doubt he could have made all his FTs instead.
