I could have believed that the DIA was just oblivious, and I could have believed that there was some absurd Nike contract thing where it mandated some dumb “3 regulars and 2 throwbacks!!” rule … but I’d be surprised if the DIA were just dumb.

To go through the effort to create this throwback but then to decide it won’t replace any of the 1LL1NO1S jerseys but rather an equally popular orange throwback would … well, only a moron would okay that.

I think they are trying to still technically be true to the original orange script uniform

This is my thing. The FIGHTING ILLINI is my favorite jersey and would love to see it in different colors. Replacing it with this version of script would not be ideal for me.

From a branding, fan excitement, whatever else perspective, if they had say 2 or 3 new uniforms cooked up would they roll them out one by one? Or do one post with all of the new kits at once? Just trying to guess if we've got more coming or should expect this to be the only new one this year.

I like the nice new uniforms and the old ones. I would wear either or a practice jersey. I just want them to win. I'm sure the team likes various styles too but the uniforms aren't the focus right now. They are focused on getting better. They saw Purdue last night I'm sure.

The scripts are AN identity and they're obviously better than the 1's, but my unpopular opinion is that they have an elevated reputation from a purely aesthetic perspective simply by not being the 1's. My long term preference would still be a complete rebrand.

I’m hoping the athletic department as a whole is starting to slowly transition away from 1LL1NO1S and beginning to use the Script as a default. Basketball now has two script uniforms, the football team has the script helmet. Many other sports are using it as well. A guy can dream!

Why start over when we have two looks that work (Script and Flyin’ Illini) and that both have an actual connection to our heritage? To help justify the salaries and benefits expense of Nike employees??

The GOAL of rebrand would be to find a look that is aesthetically pleasing and gives us good brand recognition … we already have that, twice over!!

It’s strange that Nike never sells our authentic or replica shorts anymore. They still sell plenty of other schools that seemingly have a much smaller fan base than us (not even any of the regular ones let alone the throwbacks). I would always buy the shorts but haven’t been able to find any Nike ones since 2019 (when I bought the orange Flyin Illini throwbacks).

I know other companies make cheaper versions with worse materials but would greatly prefer Nike

Yeah I think it would look slightly better if the script were white w/ navy outline, just more balanced that way. I still like these a lot though
