This is only a little worse than average BIG. Don’t think it favors one team , just wuss ball and we get killed when playing in tourney. Go back and watch the 2025 championship game and compare the officiating. It must be the administrative part of officiating not specific refs.

Dick Vitale:

“Oh BABY — they didn’t write home about these kids, they didn’t plaster their names on top-100 boards, they didn’t get that preseason champagne. Wagler and Mirkovic? They slid into Champaign like sneaky under-the-radar ninjas — and now they’re blasting through doors! Wagler — 6-6, long, smooth shooter with some backbone — knocking down threes, crashing the glass, distributing like he’s been here three years. Mirkovic — the Balkan youngster — comes in with no Hollywood hype, just raw power and instincts; next thing you know he's putting up double-doubles, 20-plus boards and dominating the paint. That’s what I call underdog thunder, baby — two freshmen nobody championed early, now cookin’ up trouble for the rest of the Big Ten!”
The staff’s ability to find players who are undervalued by others I think will be key going forward in the NIL era. I thought I heard UK spent an insane amount like 20 million for their roster and have not done well lately.

Shocking to win a game in which Bruce Thornton outscored Kylan Boswell 34-4.

Petro- 1 minute. 0 points.
Wagler- 39 minutes 23 points.

I do believe Underwood has found his rotation.

After his absolutely insane first half Illinois did a much better job on Thornton in the second. Stojakovic had some really good stretches of on ball defense when Boswell went out.

Also Z seems to be making big strides on doing the little things to contribute. More consistent defense and even some post ups!
Love me those Z fresh legs with the recent reduced minutes, after Tomi’s return. Lets him elevate late game for both blocks and threes.

Good to see them win a grind-out game.
Don't think Petrovic is going to be a significant factor this year.
Boswell isn't our defensive answer. Having 7 or 8 guys who might be able to shoulder the load defensively when needed is.
I would rather have 15 and 7 and 5 really good defensive posessions from Boswell than have him spend all his attention and energy trying to shut down a playmaker every trip.
I think this was a bad match up for Illiinois, diverse OSU backcourt. They kind of remind me of an Alabama Light.
Glad to see Illinois deliver a reasonable rate at the free throw line.

It's too early to ask this of him...but...

Wagler can...and at times needs to be that dude. As a Freshmen, his poise and feel for the game is off the charts. Its uncanny how easy he makes the game look.

There were times watching when he was looking to pass and I'm thinking...No dude...this is all you, and we are ALL good with it. We think your that good. Slowly I want him to start being willing to take over. His stop/start game is terrific. He can shoot. He gets others involved. He wants to rebound. He doesnt turn it over. We have a true Freshman playing point and its exactly what we want. The ONLY drawback is strength...I had hopes we were getting him, bigger and better next year...slowly that is slipping away...

A few other points:
- Kylan is so...passive aggressive as times. He shot it 4 times. Stop doing that. Be aggressive EVERY GAME. Not when you want to, not when you think we need it, not when other guys are or are not getting theirs. Do it every game.

- Z was great tonight.

- I'm the biggest Petro fan there is...but now I understand...you cant pull Wagler off the floor. The Kylan is too valuable on defense. The minutes are gonna be tough to come by. For Lee as well.

- Ty Rodgers would be so awesome to have right now.

- Bruce Thornton is really really good.

- DO NOT take a road win in the Big10 for granted. Good win.
