if it's the end of the 2022 season and jim harbaugh did what moore did, is he fired for cause? probably not. they probably sweep it under the rug.

look no further than how all the talk about robert anderson disappeared after they won the big ten in 2021. suddenly it didn't matter that both the radio voice of the wolverines and their head coach straight up DENIED THAT ANYTHING BAD EVEN HAPPENED, let alone schembechler's culpability in the matter.

moore was on thin ice for having michigan unranked for half his tenure and getting smacked by good teams. easy to do the right thing when it's also possible to get a better football coach out of the deal.

When you read what urban did at Florida and the cast of characters there, absolutely no way half those guys are allowed to set foot on NDs campus.
of course some of the more nefarious ones first passed through the Ron Zook Football Academy before meyer inherited them...

you don’t think Urban Meyer would take the ND job if offered ?
You right now:

Michigan will still come out of this scandal with a rose in it's mouth. Just like the basketball program did after Juwan, the FB program will probably come out stronger with the right coach. Just the advantages of having a history of success, fan support and deep pockets. 🤑🤮
And again, the NCAA will lower the boom on Central Michigan, for reasons.

Are we just pretending that Brian Kelly didn't go to the D2 national title game 3 years in a row, winning 2, turn around CMU in short order, take Cincinnati to an undefeated season, winning the Sugar Bowl and ending up #4 in the nation, finish in the top 12 seven times at Notre Dame, and then started strong at LSU?

Does anyone actually think that after 30+ years of consistent sustained success, he just all of a sudden forgot how to coach?

Yes he seems quite arrogant, he may be hard to get along with, I don't think he's as good as Cignetti, but if you think Brian Kelly as the coach would put Indiana back at the bottom of the conference, I think that's wishful thinking.
I think Brian Kelly is a good coach. Maybe a coach more on the downside of his career, but still a good coach.

I also think that Kalen DeBoer at Michigan and Brian Kelly at Indiana is a better situation for Illinois than Curt Cignetti at Indiana. Given the way dominoes could play out, I’d take my scenario. Michigan will be Michigan. But Indiana taking a step back would be a positive for the Illinois program.

I’m looking at what I believe are possible scenarios and thinking about what’s the best interest for Illinois.

Just spit balling... would there be interest in Wink Martindale as DC? Has he and Bret crossed paths in the NFL?
Didn't cross paths, though Bret was with the Giants in 2020 and Martindale was there in 2022-3, so Bret would certainly be able to conact people about how he worked. My guess though is that Wink ends up back in the NFL.

Here's a question I have. Why did Michigan feel the need to publicize the Inappropriate Relationship aspect, rather than just releasing the statement about him being relieved of his position/terminated? I.e. keep all the For Cause stuff for behind closed doors and out of the public realm...

I wouldn't be surprised if this getting validated publicly by his (ex) employer contributed to him feeling totally boxed in and going off the rails or whatever happened afterwards.

I think timing. The timing was going to raise a ton of questions so there was just no way it wasn't going to have to be answered.

Not saying this is what will happen, but I’d love to see:

DeBoer to Michigan
Cignetti to Alabama
Kelly to IU

I think I’d trade a bowl win for that sequence to occur. Honestly, I really don’t see what others apparently see in DeBoer. So if he goes to Michigan and Cignetti leaves IU and the Big Ten, that’s a major plus for Illinois.
Indiana isn’t hiring a washed up Kelly

People within the administration, or with strong connections to the university let the cat out of the bag, so they had to come clean finally.

My bet is that they wanted to do it sooner, but with all of the chaos in the coaching market they decided to wait until after signing day to mitgate the damage done to the recruiting class. At the same time, they've been going through back channels to find a new coach and have someone that is in the fold, but they can't act too soon so it appears as though this was a sudden thing.

I get why UM would want those dudes.

DeBoer I could see wanting to leave a place where he could get fired next year for losing 3 games.

Freeman I don't get. Seems like at best a lateral move: similar academic constraints, resources, recruiting, recent success ...and ND has the easier path to the CFP moving forward.
Love that we are pretending the Moore situation didn't just blow up because he went 8-4 and 9-3 the last 2 seasons. 😆

anyone been following the story enough to give a summary of what actually happened per reliable sources?

Reliably: He appears to have had a relationship with a staffer, while married with kids. Michigan was conducting an investigation into it. Fired him for cause. Unclear why they acted now. The day they fired him, he was arrested. Seems likely this arrest was due to his actions post firing and not something he got fired for. The police were called to the listed address of a female Michigan football staffer, and officers were also sent to Moore's listed address.

Conjecture: The relationship with a staffer appears to have been somewhat of an open secret based on the Michigan thread in Reddit. Multiple accounts said things similar things to “So the rumors were true!” when the news broke. There is further rumor that some form of journalist/media got ahold of the story which forced Michigan to act which is why the timeline is wonky. There are further…darker rumors but we can kind of skip those.
