How so? Brad was at 3 schools in 3 years. We gonna start holding coaching to the same standards we hold players?
Correction: 3 schools in 13 years

Pretty sure he is referring to the 2015-17 time period in his post. But let's jump to iNsUlts posthaste.Correction: 3 schools in 13 years

Logic is even harder. If you are at Stephen F Austin one season. ok state the next and then Illinois. You’d have been at guess what… 3 schools in 3 years lol.Correction: 3 schools in 13 years

Totally understood both points of view, and actually think your second post is spot on.See above

I've just seen an increased trend (not you specifically, and on both sides of the fence, and not excluding myself either) recently to go after the poster rather than the post, to make snide comments about the author rather than to refute his or her facts. Just a raw nerve for me lately.
So let me thank those of you who teach me things about Xs and Os (several of you are good here), or who give me insider tidbits (you know the usual names), or who let me appreciate the difficulty in officiating (@Chad Fleck comes to mind). Thanks to @pruman91 for the humor and to @Fighter of the Nightman for the deep analysis (and especially for the TL DR summaries).

Don't kid yourself. It matters.
It means less but it still matters. Multiple issues.I mean, if you had two equal players and one was at one high school and one college over seven years vs seven schools over seven years, I'd opt for the former.
However, kids are transferring almost every year or at least once. It means a lot less than it did before. You assume they are gone at the end of the season and plan accordingly.
Well… my dad use to say “if you’re doing (or in this case saying) something stupid, I’m doing you no favors by not telling you you’re being stupid.” Sometimes (and I’m not saying it is or isn’t warranted in this case) you’ve got to call out the person who says something stupid.Totally understood both points of view, and actually think your second post is spot on.

And doing that by correcting facts or citing better sources is very much preferred to insults. At least by me.Well… my dad use to say “if you’re doing (or in this case saying) something stupid, I’m doing you no favors by not telling you you’re being stupid.” Sometimes (and I’m not saying it is or isn’t warranted in this case) you’ve got to call out the person who says something stupid.
Yeah… but facts and logic fall short with some people. A metaphorical whack on the head with a two by four won’t generate immediate change, but it can plant a seed that perhaps will eventually grow. And doing that by correcting facts or citing better sources is very much preferred to insults. Not a fan of this… Yeah booth wasn’t good but i felt like he had a shorter leash than othersAm just going to leave this here…..
That was a little bit of a rough listen at first but I think Brad was being honest at a coaching clinic with other coaches presumably and I think he stuck to the facts. He could've left out the story about his PG(presumably KJ or Boswell). We can all read between the lines and understand who he was referring to. Unfortunately, some guys can't process or learn things at the same level/speed as others can and it looks like that was Carey's issue. Sometimes, it takes certain people longer for it to all come together. Clearly, Carey has the physical tools and the athletic gifts but can he put it all together? He couldn't do it last year but maybe a year later, he is starting to put it together, albeit, at a slightly lower level but the Mountain West is no slouch of a conferenceNot a fan of this… Yeah booth wasn’t good but i felt like he had a shorter leash than others

This was a similar issue that I think we have seen in past years with guys who had those measurables and who seemed super athletic but either it didn't come together or it took time for it to come together: Alex Legion, Kipper Nichols, Warren Carter are a few examples that immediately come to mind.
Agreed. I have seen a couple of Cal games recently and seeing Justin Pippen thrive there when he couldn't get much traction at Michigan is another example of thriving in a different situation/environment/scheme/systemI think two things can be true. Maybe he wasn't a good fit on ILL at that point in time, and he's able to do much better now in a different system.![]()
I am happy any former player performs well at his next school(s). However, I don't see one of our former players making the current Illinois team better. Thanks Coach & staff for making Illinois basketball relevant againYes Illinois may epitomize the portal era more than anyone. Lose great players every year, but also gain great new ones. For us, it seems to be a somewhat net neutral as it turns out. Just kind of the whole "you get 1 year with a team so make the most of it"
