Wagler with quite simply the greatest game in Illini history.

46 points
13-17 FGs
9-11 3s
11-13 FTs

Team hits 18-38 threes.

This is the type of magical performance you need to win a game in Mackey.
And you know if he hadn't been pretty gassed at the end of the game, he probably would have made the lay-up and two free throws he missed. Would have had a nice round 50.

This is what really pushes this one up to the next level. It's not like the stars aligned and Purdue was ice cold or something. They played great. Just an awesome game, a W of impeccable quality.
100% agreed. We went on the road against a Top 10 team that played an A+ game, probably their best game of the season, and walked out of there with the win. Just crazy stuff. If that game was the national championship game, nobody would've batted an eye, just drooled on the floor with their mouths agape. Just wild. To beat one of the best teams in the country while they are playing a near perfect game, I mean that stuff just doesn't happen.

Keaton Wagler started it and the whole team finished it in the final 4 minutes. Crazy.

I don't think it's an overreaction to say that Keaton Wagler is one of the top 10 players in Illinois basketball history. He is going to be a lottery pick in this year's NBA draft. Incredible talent. Smooth, confident, calm, and super humble. what a joy it is for line fans to be able to watch him play. Especially, when no one had a clue going into this season how good he is.
I will post this GIF at least 50 more times this season...

Ha! What a bunch of hypocritical p***ies! They had their all-conference senior point guard, and still couldn't win at home.
Speaking of the point guard, how many here have blown an ankle to the point you're rolling on the ground in massive pain. I have.

How many here 3 minutes later after that happened are playing in a basketball game as if it never happened?

Not me, my ankle was the size of a balloon and I struggled to walk.

Apparently he has a super power.

To go down memory lane for once: when's the last time anyone in a CBB game had this great a performance? This isn't me saying it hasn't happened, but when's the last time it's happened? Any player included.

And it's not just 46pts. Factor in missing only 4 shots all game, and in a top5 road win.
The answer is very simple...

Over my lifetime, I’ve watched some version of this game about 100 times. We go on the road against a higher ranked team as the underdog, we play well but, in that end, the home team makes a run and hangs on to win. Man does it feel good to play near perfect basketball in the last 4 minutes and be on the opposite side and finally get the win. I love this team

You are on to something here.

Those of us who have spent a considerable amount of our life throwing a large round ball at an elevated round hoop know what you’re talking about. This is the dream of every kid at an Inner-City park... a suburban kid finding some excitement away from living in a dull suburb... and the farm kid who is just plain happy to get away from doing chores for a while.

To all those others in the World who might not understand why so many young people around the World are throwing the same-shaped ball at the same-shaped hoop for hours and hours on end and doing this day after day for years... IT’S THE DREAM. Either the dream of monetary riches and fame one day... or the simple thrill of hearing cheers coming from friends in the high school gym... or just the neighborhood kids who happen to show up that hour at the park or community center who love the game without any other aspirations beyond than the PURE JOY OF PLAYING.

And one day... a Wagler comes along to show the World that Dreams do become true... the hidden gem that shocks the World with their formerly-unrecognized brilliance. That when no one else may have believed in them during all those hours and all those shots at all those hoops... They believed in Their own self. And that proved to be enough so they could prove it one day to everyone else. But not that they had to.

Sports at its finest is beyond the fame and the money and the broadcast rights and the endorsement deals and the egos and the sometimes sleaze. It’s about – Dreams. Thanks, Keaton... for reminding the World today.

Matt Painter's presser is very interesting. He talks about how they really didn't want to hedge or deny Wagler bc it gets them scrambling and into rotations, but they eventually had to bc Wagler was just killing them... and when they did, and did get into rotations, we also kiled them bc we had open shooters everywhere.

I think the most amazing thing is Wagler's PG ability as such a youngin', bc what I think Painter is saying is you're sorta damned if you do, damned if you don't against our offense.

This to me spells a deep tourney run, provided we don't have an absolutely abysmal shooting game -- but even then, we have guys who can get their own in Andre, Kylan, Wagler, our post up game, etc.

Today was some kind of statement.

What differs between fans is the importance of the game. Yes, we spanked Wake Forest to become the #1 team. But that season would mean nothing without that Arizona comeback. That, and the #1 IU upset are in my top 10. Just not worthy of a top 5 spot, IMO.

Speaking of d-bags, I think he bears a striking physical resemblance to Juwan Howard.

Just sayin

For the most part of that 1989 Indiana game, the Illini looked like crap. We kept it close and caught up near the end, capped by Nick’s dagger.
I still remember watching that on TV, they went to a commercial break as if IU won, I was screaming at the TV that there should be 2 seconds left. They came back from break, Illini had 2 seconds for Nick to hit his shot.
