As I see playcalling OC positions fill without Nate being one of those names, I’m wondering if this is more Nate being picky or focusing on head coach positions or if there is something teams are doubting. I really felt like he would be a top candidate for some of the jobs that are filling up.

Oklahoma names Illinois' Roger Denny as next AD

This is the primary “downside” (if you can call it that) of being a really good athletic department. At some point, your top people will want to run their own shows.

Nothing wrong with it. Great opportunity for Roger Denny at a very high profile institution. The good news is Josh Whitman will likely have no shortage of people who would want to work with him.

I’m struggling to figure this one out with Nate apparently not even getting sniffs for a play calling OC roles.

I don’t know…rumor has it that this Rivers guy was a pretty good quarterback for like 18 seasons in the NFL. I heard he played in something like 8 Pro Bowls and may know a little about NFL football and running an offense.

Could just all be conjecture though.

Well… if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years of watching sports… ownership and management is filled with many more idiots than geniuses.

Going back to Roger Denny going to OU as AD. Who would have possibly guessed that 10 years ago, anyone from Illinois would have been considered for Oklahoma’s AD, let alone Illinois’ number 2 getting the OU AD job?

What a positive mark for what Josh Whitman is doing at Illinois.

Nothing against Nate, he’s a son of the beloved, he’s and up and comer, and I have no doubt he’s a great coach. He was only an OC at Iowa State 1 year. For the Rams he’s been an Offensive Assistant and Pass Game Specialist for 1 season and Pass Game Coordinator for 1 season for a Head Coach who handles all the play calling.

I don’t think it’s that absurd that he wouldn’t get an OC job this year. His time is definitely coming, but I’m not going to question an NFL front office for not hiring him as their OC this year.

I think the Beckman project failed quickly @ UNC when people started raising hell.

Beckman is not a volunteer assistant at UNC. That was like 4 years ago and go shut down right after it was announced.

I think we can all agree that starting as the HC for the browns would likely not set NS up for long term success, but a head coaching position is a head coaching position?

Now that the Rams are eliminated, let's see what happens with Chris Shula. If he gets a head coach job Nate probably lands there as a play calling OC.

They need to try something different. It has to be Scheelhaase or they're stuck promoting Jim Schwartz

if so, what a trajectory NS is on. i had hoped to get him back on staff at IL someday but at this point it would have to be as HC if he’d even be interested
