Just a reminder the AP poll is made up of a lot of horrible writers at terrible newspapers. These folks don’t watch games and aren’t informed. We have someone who ranked Miami of Ohio 13 and Illinois 12. I don’t care you are undefeated playing Southwest Missouri community college. Iowa is another team getting screwed. This is why the metrics are important - they remove the nonsense that some extreme voters create.
#8 makes perfect sense! Lose in OT at Top 10 with poor officiating.

Nebraska to #7 after we just beat them as they had a highly contested game against the almighty Rutgers.

These people are sportswriters that vote, thats all they do! Watch, listen, and read about sports. They arent lawyers, doctors, teachers, etc who get to catch a game here and there.

This is why polls matter less and less every day, just like ESPN...as useless as teets on a boar.
Sad thing is many of them are terrible at their jobs. They have all day to write about sports and can’t even rank a team properly - some of the voters have such extreme ballots I think they do it for clicks.

It's not Kansas; it's Darryn Peterson. On ESPN, Kansas can't bring the ball down the court without a discussion of Peterson. I don't know where the college basketball world would be without Peterson. Thank god for Peterson.

Did I mention Peterson?
:ROFLMAO:
Yeah, you did mention " Peterson"

Believe it or not, I get why Duke didn't fall. It's not just about how that one team performs, but how other teams perform. Who goes ahead of Duke? Iowa St.? Maybe, if one of their losses wasn't to a Cincinnati team that is way worse than UNC. Iowa St.'s other loss is to Kansas - a team Duke beat. So I get not passing Iowa St. over Duke. Next team on the list - UConn, whose loss to St. John's was worse and whose wins so far this season are less impressive? Naw. Nebraska? Naw. Duke stays at #4 not in spite of its loss to UNC, but because the resumes of those that could have passed it are worse.

MSU not falling doesn't make a lot of sense until you consider that the teams after it are 1) UNC, who doesn't have a great resume besides the Duke win and already moved up 4 spots because of that so they pretty much maxed out that movement; 2) Gonzaga, who had a really bad loss this week, like potentially the worst losses of any highly ranked team this season; 3) Purdue who lost to IU and did not beat anybody good; and 4) Florida, who has been playing well but has 6 losses. So who was supposed to pass MSU?

The only thing that strikes me as egregious is Nebraska passing us up. That makes zero sense.

seriously!

-we lose @#10 MSU in OT, and in the same week kill the kitties at home by 40, and we drop 3 spots.
-doook loses @#14 UNC by 3, and in the same week beats BC at home by 18, and they do not move.

Someone explain please.
It is actually pretty easy to explain. Duke was 20-1 going into the week, and the gap was fairly wide between Duke and Illini when it comes to points (~140 points), and we were 4 and 5, respectively. The Illini gap to Nebraska (then #9) was a similar total gap. Therefore, it should be no surprise to see the Illini drop three places. Duke lost to essentially a buzzer beater to a ranked foe...they were never going to drop much at all given that starting place.

Now this week the gap between #3 (Houston) and #6 (UCONN) is only 48 points. Therefore, the losses by Duke and UCONN actually closed the gap among the top teams. Right now it is the top 6 teams and then Nebraska and Illini relatively far behind those 6 teams. There is a valid argument that the Illini should not have fallen below Nebraska, but I will not lose sleep over it.

In my view, we should not complain much about the AP ranking, at least based upon how the AP decides the ranking. The main thing is that the Illini are still very highly rated in NET and Kenpom, so the resume is still very much in place for at least a 2-seed. Still a lot of basketball to play. If the team performs well in the coming two-week stretch, then the Illini will be right back in top 5 AP consideration heading into the matchup with Michigan. These next two weeks are huge for the Illini with WISC and IU at home and then UCLA/USC on the road. Win and the rankings will take care of itself.

In my view yes we should no matter how they decide their rankings because they make no sense and have no logic. Two teams lost in the top 10 that stayed int he same position, one of those teams, MSU, lost to a team that has a losing record.

Don't know if they are ranked correctly but Kansas and Florida are playing as well as anyone right now.
Eh I don't know about all that. Florida lost to Auburn at home a two weeks ago. Michigan, as much I can't stand them, and Arizona are playing better than either of those teams right now.

I find it interesting that this board is really upset about Duke not getting moved down, and at the same time there seems to be a general correlation that voters that punished Duke the most are the same voters than punished us the most. There are exceptions of course, but a lot of our worst voters are also amongst Duke's worst voters, and vice versa.

Highest 4 loss team in the country!!! No complaints ILL

heck yeah, but While true, we've played more quad 1A games than anyone in the neighborhood of losses we are in......looking at the top 15:

we've played 9 quad 1a games

Only team close to our quad 1A is kansas and they have more losses

2 loss teams in the poll
3 Houston: 3 quad 1A
4 Duke: 6 quad 1A
5 IA St: 3 quad 1A
6 Uconn: 6 quad 1A
7 Nebby: 6 Quad 1A
12 Zaga: 2 Quad 1A

the 3 loss teams in the poll
15 Virginia: 4 quad 1A

4 loss teams

8 Illinois: 9 Quad 1A
10 MSU: 5 Quad 1A
11 UNC: 6 Quad 1A
13 Purdue; 6 quad 1A

5 or more
9 Kansas 7 quad 1A
14 Florida: 5 Quad 1A

Me thinks thered be a few more 4+ loss teams against our sched, i do like how battle tested we'l be come march regardless of impact on polls

If I am not really upset about that am I still part of this board?

As for Nebraska, they did beat us at home and have fewer losses...
