I love Z. He's outperformed my expectations, and when he's at his best, I think that's our ceiling.
But I thought that was a ridiculous game, just candidly. Like ok, you got popped in the face your first possession, but lets go. Grab the ball. Finish over Coit to push us from 6 to 8 when Maryland was wobbling. Don't risk a nonsensical technical with a weird push at the 4-minute mark. he's lucky the Mills play wasn't an and-1 when we'e up 6, let him go!
He did go straight up final play though. Glad ref didn't anticipate that call. Cough* UCLA

The poor 3 point shooting seems to be the trend for this team. This team is on the struggle bus.
Torvik even gives us 127.4, and an adjusted 131.1 (road game against an average defense). Our defense was 117.6, and an adjusted 114.3, which is our 2nd worst defensive game (after Nebraska at home, which was a putrid 126)
I’m still amazed at Keaton not getting many fouls on those drives. I counted 4 obvious fouls on that play with about 3 minutes to go. As many have already posted if we shoot less than 30% from 3 we will struggle to beat good teams

And there were 3 phantom foul calls by refs in favor of the Terps. Is anyone else getting tired of this? Typically reffing balances itself out, but I feel like if you drive against and flail your body/arms/legs the refs are blowing the whistle. Literally 2-3 times this game where a Terp didn't get touched and they blew the whistle while a Terp was going to the rim. It happens, but it's so frustrating when they're bodying our guys the entire time when they're on defense and there aren't any of those body calls called. OK, I'm done.
I like this win for momentum. Let's snag a 2 seed and make a run. Maybe we get a little luck and draw a bracket where we're the 2, Gonzaga is the 3, and the 1 isn't Duke/Michigan/Arizona.

I thought this was definitely in the bottom 3 for Z performances this season, and yet he had some critical defensive plays late that won us the game where he just flat out made the right play and it led to an empty Maryland possession. The biggest issue with Z is he plays like a freshman physically and mentally he's still learning. He really needs a summer in the weight room. Every day, multiple times a day.
But yes, not a good game for him, and that shove was inexcusable. Could have very easily been a flagrant. Buzz 100% should've challenged that. He can't do that stuff in the tourney. I love the energy he plays with, just needs to make sure it's within the lines.
If we do make a tourney run, Z will play a large part in it. Of that I have little doubt.
It’s weird he doesn’t get more calls- he’s clearly get pushed around on drives and the refs seem oblivious to it- to your point in that drive under 3 min- he got bodied twice on the drive and got hit on the shot with no call. Maryland comes down and barely draws any contact on a drive and it’s a foul.
I can’t tell if he needs to flop more or flop less to get the calls
