It’s weird he doesn’t get more calls- he’s clearly get pushed around on drives and the refs seem oblivious to it- to your point in that drive under 3 min- he got bodied twice on the drive and got hit on the shot with no call. Maryland comes down and barely draws any contact on a drive and it’s a foul.

I can’t tell if he needs to flop more or flop less to get the calls
He needs to flop more and sell it, plain and simple. I'm not saying go all Jeremy Fears, yelp, scream, flail, and dive into the ground at the slightest bit of contact, but also yeah, he needs to do that. He's playing tough and playing through contact, and I love it that he does it, I really do. But the refs ain't calling it unless you sell it this season, so you've gotta sell it.

You got any cheese to go along with that whine?

Torvik even gives us 127.4, and an adjusted 131.1 (road game against an average defense). Our defense was 117.6, and an adjusted 114.3, which is our 2nd worst defensive game (after Nebraska at home, which was a putrid 126)

I feel like im taking crazy pills, but I really didn't hate the defense today? I wouldn't put it in the hall of fame, but I thought Mills and Coit and Adams hit some tough stuff.

I did dislike the defensive rebounding, especially the first 15 minutes though.

Couple guys playing sick. Way to grind it out.
This is not good..I'm a runner and got the flu..While the worse symptoms go away after 2-3 days, it took a good 2-3 weeks to get back to 100%..And I got the shot

I will never apologize for a road win, especially in conference play. Especially one where I wouldn't say anyone outside of Mirk played above a B-/C+.

But, it's a showcase of very thin margins for us - when we don't rebound at a high level, it can be spooky hours.

That said, they hit a lot of tough shots. We missed a lot of good looks. Only won rebounding by 3. And still won. But really, really, would like us to atleast throw one knockout punch game in the Big Ten Tournament before we hit the tournament.
I felt like Maryland didn't miss one two-point attempt. LOL.

Aside from giving up a few easy three's, I agree. It seemed Maryland made everything today--and some were very tough shots.

Never a doubt...

Found a way to win- but I'm legit concerned about our team. The twins are playing some of their worst ball, Andrej plays good every 1/3 games and is unplayable the other 2/3. Wagler looks like he's in a funk.. Just uninspiring ball headed into single elimination.
Brad said Andrjej had the flu this week and lost 10 pounds, no doubt wasn't feeling great but at least he went. Hitting those free throws was huge at the end of the game. He also said Keaton had some back issues, nothing serious but it's bothered him a bit.

The existential question for this team is which is the mirage, the way we shot from 3 earlier in the year, or the way we're shooting from 3 now?

You can guard us totally differently if we don't have guys you have to prevent the launch from 1-5.
How much of the difference, if any, is Kylan being back in the lineup? Defenders just don't have to close in on him the same as they do everyone else and that makes it tougher for the other guys to get open looks.

This is exactly the kind of game you could have in a 3-14 type of matchup. While maybe not an artistic masterpiece, good to get that type of win heading into the postseason.

Humble vacation brag - I watched this game from an island off the Costa Verde in Brazil. Waves lapping. Brazilian beer flowing. Wifi good enough to get the idea. There is maybe only one non-familial thing that could give me anxiety today. And that thing is a close game against Maryland.

Been beating this drum for a while now (not that it's anything revelatory) but all you have to do is look at threes - made and allowed.

When we make at least 10 or 11, we're good. As in, any team in the country better bring their A game on those nights to beat us.

But when we don't or when we allow 10 or more, lesser teams will have a puncher's chance. And equal or better teams may beat us.

MD fell short of the magic number tonight and even if they had made 10, still would've lost. But mark my words, if we lose prior to the E8, it'll be because of the scenario described above.

All that said, I agree with everyone who said "a win is a win." No pictures on the team sheet. Just needed to get the dub. And we did.

Onto banner season.

And while I'm on one....

2020 - no banner
2021 - banner
2022- banner
2023- no banner
2024 - banner
2025 - no banner

2026 - do we really think THIS Illinois team will be the first of the 2020s to go consecutive years without raising one?? I don't.
