I don't buy the argument the radio crew was making that this may be a blessing in disguise because we can rest. We just had a week off and we get this effort. Another week off isn't going to suddenly make this team tough enough to make a run. We peaked in January. We've lost 5 of last 9, that doesn't scream deep tournament run. It may end up a 14 over 3 seed upset.
Very likely

Does anybody truly expect a sweet 16 or would we be lucky to even get past the first round?seriously asking?how can we have this much talent and lack of coaching and strategic thinking make what should be a great team with aspirations to be great and be held back by coach that obviously got his instructions from a cracker jack box.we are soft in every possible facet of thd game.we keep concentrating on Europe and w c+prospects just took it to us.we need some type of change fr.is yaklich still available?

Ugghh!
They got a few things figured out. Big Z using 2 hands and Andrej driving the f’n ball. Kylan! What the F are you doing. You blew up one screen and you are going to start running your mouth. Put himself and the team in a spot.
The refs were just terrible, but we put them in position to be.
I’m still confident.
I’m looking for Tomi. Any of you see him?

I don't care that we lost, I really don't mind not having to watch Michigan cheap shot Keaton at every chance again.

However, the complete lack of coaching making a difference continues to be an issue and continues to lower my expectation ceiling for our teams every year.

How is there no instruction, whether through timeout of otherwise, to go quickly when we have the ball with 52 seconds to go? We never should have used 20 seconds of shot clock. We should have had the last possession, period.
Underwood’s history just keeps repeating itself.

Again Wisconsin proved that in today's game they were the tougher and grittier team. Illinois got a lead in both halves but could not maintain the lead. The 2 Wisconsin gtuards are very very good. I give credit to Wisconsin. And Illinois goes back to the drawing board. On a glass is half full concept. There is plenty of history of teams advancing very far in the NCAA tournament who flamed out early in the conference tournament.

People on this forum who defend this team by saying we have the number one rated offense in the country nust refuse to actually watch the game of basketball and see how lost we are most of the time.

THe little sisters of the poor could beat us, all they gotta do is go to O.T.

Brad Underwood team in March.
While others play better and peek.....illini consistently (for past 4 of 5 seasons) are running on fumes and playing like crap.
For all the talk about how good Fletch is and how great our conditioning is we always seem to be mentally exhausted at the end of the year. A lot of teams run an 8-man rotation and don't seem to fizzle out, heck when North Carolina made their Cinderella run a few years ago I believe they only ran 7 guys. Underwood isn't being fired, but if some other school is desperate enough to pony up the cash to get him to come I wouldn't be sad.

Plain and simple he's been an extremely good recruiter, but he just isn't a good in-game coach especially in the late game. Way too stubborn for his own good. Absolutely inexplicable his coaching decision to play Tomi over Z that whole overtime. This is yet another season where his late game substitutions and subs lose us a game. This is not a single game issue, it's been going on for seasons.

Just infuriating stuff. Infuriating game.
Time to cut our losses and start over with a new coach!

Maybe better for the team mentality to lose a close one there than by 30 to Michigan tomorrow. Only positive I can draw from this performance
Maybe, but neither one is going to get u to Elite 8, Final 4 or championship Game
Tired of Settling for a high seed and an early exit
Illinois Settlers died a loooong time ago

Tomi is ridiculously bad. No idea why he is playing more than spot minutes for Z right now. Just atrocious on both ends. Every run Wisconsin had was with him in the game.
Whats that say about brads great coaching?

Our top rated offense philosophy is for our bigs to spread the floor and shoot 3’s.
I mean...great - let's keep doing that. But when we get a double-digit lead after doing that, how about we crank up the pressure on their defenders and start getting to the line?

It should be absolute misery playing against us with a lead - we've got three guys who can do a good job getting to the basket, we're tall enough to pass over most defenses.....I cannot for the life of me figure out how that doesn't translate to running the opponent through the ringer for the first half of the shot clock and then forcing a decision to foul or not at the rim.

Team doesn't have moxy. They can't close when the going gets tough. The reporter was right.

The flopping in the big ten has to stop.
For a short time last year, weren't floppers being given a Technical?

Probably time to push the Ivisics to the NBA or whatever. We need to target actual physical bigs in the portal.

Unfortunately, I can't think of one school that would want him for the money HE thinks he's worth. Not one.
