Absolutely on the bolded! This holier than thou segment of the fanbase is insufferable.

Appreciate the bright side, but it really is completely overshadowed by your spot on negatives. We have negative momentum going into the tournament, and all we hear from this staff and team is that we are aiming for championships. It becomes hollow and counterproductive when it reaches this point.
Seriously fr.and now Brad cant even claim the btt as a conference championship because he keeps losing in the 1st time we play of it now.with this much talent and lack of coaching is gut wrenchingly dissapointing.how can we keep buying in as a fan base when Brad keeps dissapointing us and has absolutely no defensive adjustments with c+, opposition player that score almost 90% of the opposing teams points.ps Brad waiting for opposing teams players to cool down is not a defensive adjustment its just shameful Seriously

Imagine typing this 2 years ago. Underwood built his teams around athleticism and it allowed us to own teams like Wisconsin and Iowa. Then for some reason Underwood shifted and we've grown more reliant on shooters, while Gard seemingly got tired of being dominated by athletic teams like us and made it a point to get better in that regard.
It’s true. Even 2022-23 when we were a hot mess we just out athleted Wisconsin. The difference in athleticism was stark. They had no answer for Matt Mayer.

Learn how to play defense and stop letting refs dictate the game and you wouldn’t have disappointed faces. You would have thought after the 5th loss of the season it would have clicked.

Andrej gets on a roll first half gets subbed out. Ben plays 23 minutes. 0 points. Davis doesn’t rebound. Play Big Z 30 minutes. Tomi is lost. Knew we had to stop 2 guys and they go off for 70. Coaching is very very questionable right now
Just like last year. Brad sees something in Ben that no one else in the world does. Nothing personal against the kid, but he's been treated with kid gloves since he got here, and we've all been told that it's our fault that we can't see just how elite he is. Brad's stubborn, no doubt. But this thing with Ben over the last two seasons has been mind-boggling.

The lack of mental toughness all season long is beyond disappointing.

February 28th: “This current Illini team has NO street-ball toughness... The Illini are trying to Euro-Their-Way to a National Title and that ain’t gonna happen. The Euro game is fine but inherently soft. Without street-ball toughness this reveals an Illini weakness. You cannot just finesse your way to a Final Four. This is not a dance competition... The Illini are sliding at a time when they need momentum into the Tournaments.”

Today:

It seems the Fighting Illini (and Coaching staff) all have Headaches... NOT from the loss today but from all this hitting their heads UP AGAINST the Glass Ceiling that keeps them from joining the Upper Elite (year after year).

Can anybody find some Ball Toughness? Or is it like they say... "You Are What You Are".

Kylan isn't the defender his inexplicable reputation makes him out to be.

Absolutely idiotic decision to get in Boyd's face. That's losing basketball. And what does Brad do? Applaud it.

One of my big frustrations is that Wagler, as great as he has been & I can't imagine how bad this team would be without him, has a tendency to take some really dumb shots at key moments of the game. Today it was a 23 ft contested 3 right when WI was reclaiming momentum. In those moments you need a bucket to stem the tide and keep the lead at 10-12 pts. Instead, we miss a few 3s, they get on a run, and then we don't have the toughness to win a tight one.
He made a lot of garbage shots, emphasis on MADE. He kept us in the game. He's a freshman playing better than seniors. Give him some credit.

Where we ranked in Turnip and Kid Palm rankings now? 🤓

Heard our recent teams are legendary there

I want to win on spreadsheets 🤓

I honestly think a lot of the time the D actually played well but it is so deflating to play D and hustle, play without fouling and then at multiple key moments with the game in balance have the refs blow calls and put 85% free throw shooters on the line over and over again. I mean i swear Kylan, Keaton, Z, Ben and Andre all had several awful calls where they wanted to fall to thier knees and throw their hands in the air and scream WTF REF! They were so frustrated and justifiably so. And then have to look at Boyd laughing about it while he and Blackwell score so many points from the line that shouldnt have ever been called. I dont know how you can stop those guys when they are getting whistles when they literally arent even touched and flop all over the place. It really is sad and deflating. I wouldve been tossed if i were Brad but at the end it was too late to get a T. These refs antipated so many fouls on or guys and it just takes the wind out of our sails bs guys that are so hard to stop.and then when you do a ref bails em out
Blaming the refs just low hanging fruit

This team was fun to watch until about five weeks ago. They had incredible energy, great team chemistry, and passing and assists were incredible, proving the talent on this team. Something changed after our 12-game winning streak ended, and I think the coach is responsible for not preparing this team mentally, poor substitutions, and seemingly bad game plans. Yes, you have to make your shots and your free throws, but Illinois seems to have lost its passion.

The issue is obviously coaching. Yay we have the most regular season wins in the last 7 years. We’ve outperformed our March seed ONCE in that time. We’ve lost in the first game of the big ten tournament at least twice in that time. We lost in the second round of the tournament with two all Americans on the team during that time. It’s so obvious that coaching is the problem but it’s not going to change.
I said this 2 weeks ago after the UCLA choke job, with all the stats of the last 20 years of IL NCAA hoops results and got roasted by almost everyone on this board. Wish I had been wrong. But I deal in reality not fantasy.
Yet another year where we need a miracle run the NCAA tourney to salvage a season, with the team spiraling downward.

IMO, my post from November after Uconn loss still holds:

“Offense comes and goes, defense travels. The defense will improve at the margins, but the lack of athleticism and abysmal lateral quickness was a roster choice that is not correctable. This should be a top 25 team all season that is great fun to watch but frustrating vs elite teams w/ superior athleticism and quickness. To beat elite teams this squad must dominate the rebounding margin and shoot 3s @ >35% clip.”

I still have high hopes for a second weekend showing and a punchers chance from there. See you in Indy:)

Unfortunately they have to Euro their way because be real the "athletes" and you know what I mean by that, they don't want to come to Illinois because let's be real the coaches have an issue with athletes. Then you add in the administration that wants to waste money on supporting a pip tarts bowl football team. Unfortunately they would rather get good in multiple sports instead of being great at one
