ILL ain't like we ain't been here before brother!! Come on Sunday....🤕
INI, I convinced my father to watch every Illini game this year as he was initially resigned to wait until the tournament where he wouldn’t be emotionally invested.

He claimed the last two months were unnecessarily stressful many past Illini years.

Next up, Selection Sunday when we learn our path.

Make free throws. They probably take 500 a day. To step up there and miss critical ones, while Blackwell and Boyd combined missed one....that's the game. Those are free points and we got outscored by 16 in that column.....in a game we lost by 3 in OT.

Make the freebies and leave with a W. Miss a bunch and this is the result.
Get off the FT's. YES they missed FT's in this game that ultimately were the difference, but this team has been having issues for weeks and they are 4th in the country in FT % while shooting more FT's than their opponents. Your earlier analysis regarding lack of quickness (and overall lack of athletiscm I will add) is much more indicative of the problem.

Agree, it's difficult. Nothing is guaranteed. But your examples kind of lend themselves to the hot seat narrative IMO.

Painter had two sweet 16s in his first 4 years, has 6 overall with a runner up thrown in over 18 years.
Sampson had a final four then an Elite 8 in years 7 & 8 at Oklahoma
Wright got to 2 sweet 16s and elite 8 in years 4, 5, & 7 at Villanova winning it all in year 15 & 17

It's time for long runs to start happening in my humble opinion.
Underwood had an Elite 8 run the season before last and is about to get a 3 seed. And you people want to fire him (and don't claim that's not true because when you say UNACCEPTABLE, what else can that mean?).

After Painter got his first two Sweet 16s, this was his next 6 seasons:

You'd have been calling for his firing halfway into this stretch and by year 6 you'd have been apoplectic.

That's his offense though. Guys making plays. It's been his offense his whole time here. Ayo, TSJ, Riley, Wagler. When guys make plays and hit shots, it looks great. When they don't, well we all know.

We all love the analytics lol, I wonder how many threes we shoot off the dribble vs. off the catch. I think it's a lot more of the former, which is an indicator of the offense, or lack there of, being run.
You are correct. However with Giorgi when they were not very good, they ran some pretty stuff with that double high set. And Illinois has bigs who can pass which would be perfect for that. I have wondered why not incorporate that 3 or 4 possessions per half to give the opponent a different look. At the time there was stuff all over you tube showing the various options. I know I am not on the staff.

I have an honest, real question for some of the doom and gloom folks here...do you find some kind of relief from posting that we're destined to lose in the first round, or that there is "no chance" we make the sweet sixteen? Or that Brad should be fired? I just...don't understand what leads to those kind of comments.

Was today frustrating? 100%...missed FTs late, bad officiating, lack of killer instinct, the list goes on and on. Has the last month or so been disappointing...also 100%...and that means the team is definitely in a negative trend, and the hopes of a Final Four seem to have been dashed. But are we really worried about losing to a 14 seed? Do we really think Brad should be fired after having the most regular season wins in 20 seasons, just because we've finished the season on a downward slide? Y'all realize those are wild takes, right? Can crazy things happen and we lose to a 14 seed? Sure...but...I just don't get how we suddenly feel like that is a certainty.

Also...real question...who do you think we're going to hire to replace Brad? I'd rather stick with what we've got, and trust him to keep tinkering and figure out how to continue tweaking what he's doing to figure out how to have a team playing at its best in March.
I don't think people are saying Brad should be fired. I think the point is that if we get stuck in Round 2 again, he may need to switch up hos approach. This season is frustrating because we keep losing in the same manner over and over again.

We should have beaten UCLA, Nebraska at home, and Wisconsin today. Winning those three and you are looking at a possible 1 seed and a much easier path for a tournament run. Brad may want to consider changing his approach late in games or adjust his recruiting strategy. We can't take the law of averages approach to the tournament where if we get there 10 times, we have to eventually break through. Brad should not be fired or even be on the hot seat, but he should be open to switching things up if things aren't working. At this point, I don't see if making the correct adjustments.

One of choices that has to be dealt with after this season is everything related to Morez, his minutes last year taken by Ben, and the decision to prioritize Tomi over him. Wild that it turned out Tomi really wasn't a danger from three at all, no where near the rebounder, and no where near the overall scorer. That was a terrible roster construction decision. Player development between the two...we don't look so good.

This completely made up version of history is just never going to die, is it?

Can't wait to see the women play next week. Be nice to cheer on an Illini team that plays with heart and gives a damn.
There like the men’s team can’t shoot the three actually there worse

That doesn't cut it either. Doesn't make the current situation acceptable.
Exactly!!! It’s great Brad pulled this program out of the gutter but I think this is Underwood ceiling. If that’s the case which I believe it is then we should be looking for the next guy who can take Illinois to another level. It’s okay to want better for the Illinois basketball program!!!

This team reminds me sooo much of 21-22 team.

Both 15-5 in Big
Sputtered down the end.

Lose in the field of 32.

Difference is that team played very good D but couldn't really create offense

This team can create offense but can't guard anyone.

Brad has transformed the team and his approach but here we are.

Either change the narrative this year or keep on keeping on.....

We needed to stop one of their guards and we didn’t even come close to doing that. The majority of their scoring comes from 2 players, terrible game plan
Did we not see this in the first game against them?
