Houston and Arizona defense really have stood out, with their Physicality!
Zona has 2 massive bigmen with legit skills. Last evenings defense plan and effort was some of the best in my 40 years of Fandom and support of my school! The extra effort by all the players is what wins titles. Case in point when Andre went flying bye Houstons guard shooting a 3. Stopped and went right back at him and it made him adjust and was ruled 2 point shot. All game long! That defense was dominating!

They're like the cast of some wacky sports movie. A desperate coach (Dabney Coleman) goes to the Balkans and signs a bunch of players who are all slightly unhinged: two 7-footers who happen to be twins, a power forward with a tattoo of Chucky and a profile pic that looks like a Bellevue patient, and a 30-year-old chainsmoking point guard. And their led by a skinny freshman that no one wanted.
I can dig it!! Like a Balkan Basketball “Slapshot” of sorts with Dabney Coleman.
I was going to say this exact thing - Nice job Wyatt!

The Wisconsin game was only 14 days ago??!? Holy cow, seems like a month or more.
I went to that game. Thought we were dead in the water. That said, free throw shooting lost us that game. It didn't bite us yesterday, but we weren't exactly stable in the last few minutes. We should have won by closer to 20.

That HAS to be cleaned up.

Just watched the replay and suffered through SVG's raving's about tuggler.......lmao , are they related ??.......tuggler played dirty the whole game and reminds me of purdont's TKR big time.........Hummel had an ok night but no one compares to Brian Barnhart and Deon Thomas when listening to an Illini basketball game..............

the definite key to the game was odd to me as Boswell got his 3rd foul with 17:24 left in the game........the Illini then went on that excellent 17-0 run over the next 6 minutes........Mirko-Man was outstanding during this run ..............he really really was..............

as another poster posted earlier another definite time in the game was Tomi's 3 pointer after uh cut the lead down to 9 pts....

real suffering was watching mashburn and satan pre game.......mashburn is terrible.....he really really is.....so is that dude who was on cbs the day before the game.....I think his name is Chris Walker.....he guaranteed a uh win and said the Illini weren't tough enough to beat uh in basically a home game 2 miles from their campus........lol , dude don't know jack s**t....he really really don't................

NEXT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It pissed me off that all of us work our bones into the ground, that's a nice word. These fools on the game calls and studios are freaking pathetic and 90% need a rehab clinic. I cannot get Brian and Deon to sink to game. I'm on mute now because of their horrible job performance!

Just an observation: the people who never missed an opportunity to post Zach Hamer's photo in angry postgame threads do not appear to have mentioned Camryn Crocker in this thread once.

That dude painted the Mona Lisa last night.
What? Where has it been the entire season. Don't gas light. Their effort. The players was extraordinary.

It was 20 years ago during a time where recruiting was ugly, but beneath table. Now, it's the same nonsense, but we know it's a money grab, everyone is transparent about it and it's the haves vs have nots. I couldn't stand him two decades ago, but have to give credit where it's due.

What he's done with that Houston program is incredible. He took an afterthought who was buried in Conference USA(right) and made them a national power.

His stints at Oklahoma and IU were..... questionable, but he pretty much just found an opportunity and went wild with it.

I think Dusty May is 1000% worse. Actually, Michigan as a whole is. They bought that entire roster, ripping guys away from other programs and they put him down as a great tactician. Yeah, transfer in an NBA front court....life is easier.
My memory might be a little shaky here but didn't Ron Guenther & Kelvin Sampson have an oral agreement that Kelvin would take over for Self after Self stiffed us for Kansas? Sampson was coaching at Oklahoma and wanted out. I thought Kelvin told some reporters and Guenther got pissed, yanked the offer and then settled for Weber. Sampson then took over at Indiana when Mike Davis flamed out a couple of years later.

I missed it, these 10 pm EDT tipoffs are killer for us old folks.

I looked at the box score, nothing stands out. No highlights on tv like the 5 on 4 fiasco or the illegal tip in from other games.

So what are the take aways, what did we excel at against Houston that gets us to the next level. Positive thoughts only please.

Your memory is better than mine because I can't remember that at all. I remember Kruger leaving, Self leaving, then us taking Weber because he was "safe" and the flight risk was minimal.

You could very well be right.

No it was after Kruger left that Guenther very nearly hired or reportedly even had a deal with Sampson that may or may not have blown up due to leaks on Sampson's end.

Before Weber there were reports that we were on the verge of hiring Dana Altman.

Unbelievable! Simply amazing! I cannot believe how almost of a flawless game that the Illini played. They beat Sampson and Houston at their own game. Rebounding/physicality/defense on display. I am slightly shocked b/c I didn't think they had it in them to take it straight down Houston's throat and they did just that. This avenges the 2022 game where Houston was clearly the superior team but I thought today, the Illini were the superior team and stood toe to toe with the big bad bully. A total team effort with Mirk, Wagler, Stojakovic, and Tomi leading the way. Excellent gameplan and excellent job. This was a huge step for this program....HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGE step. This is the kind of game you have to win to get to the Final 4. Bravo to our group! Bravo to Underwood for finally winning a big time game outside of Iowa St in the Sweet 16. This goes a long way with Illini Nation and goes a long way to prove he can coach well in the games that matter b/c that often times has not been the case.
It took you this long to figure out Brad is a good coach? I mean the last 6 years didn't do it for you?

Imagine living in Houston and walking into work with red eyes and a big smile on your face. When asked if I was high and saying yes, but the reason why. It was a way better feeling for me than a couple years ago and a way different response from everyone who isnt a Texas or A&M grad/fan.

The way that Wagler and Boswell handled the ball at the top of the offense all night was the key factor imo. UH got no swipe/steal/runouts for dunks or advantages where we had to scurry to get set defensively in transition.

We just completely eliminated that scoring possibility from them by handling the pressure up top all game. So in a way, our offense also was an effective defense.

Awesome pic.

BU: "Coaches win games. Admistrations win championships."

Josh is a monster. No one is better.
He is awesome, but the Texas AD’s hires and athletic department might have better overall results throughout his tenure.

Felt like the play of the game when Boswell secured the ball with one hand around 4 Houston defenders and got fouled.

But, he followed it up by missing front end of 1 and 1.
