Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

Pettigrew reminds me a lot of Romeo Langford when he went to IU. Just smooth body control as a 2 guard. I think he will def be 1 and done and I hope Illinois lands him even if it’s in the 2027 class. He’s good enough to start next year.

Having seen a lot of Romeo … That’s a pretty good comp …

Romeo had one major flaw that everyone wanted to overlook … Kid never truly loved the game …

It caught up with him …

We’ll kick the tires … Brad really likes the kids game …

Spend a year with Fletch and staff and then be ready next year …
With the 5 in 5 passing, any chance he could return and play by February?

Would honestly be a perfect fit for the roster imo if he would be healthy all season but I'd definitely take adding proven vet guard down the stretch of the season. Even just in a 10-15 minute role for March.

Wouldn't exactly be ideal trying to work a guy into a rotation in Feb/March but would give you an awesome "break glass in case of emergency" option down the stretch.

A bit different since he was injured late in the year but Duke doesn't beat St Johns without Foster coming back early injury and playing off the bench. Guard play in March is huge and I would rather see the ball in Cason's hands down the stretch then Jake Davis or a freshman not named Quinton tbh.

Plus, taking him from Michigan would be a plus.

Pettigrew can talk to KJ, Will, and Keaton about how they were first round draft picks after freshman year at Illinois and what its like to play for Brad

Or he can to 23 year old Yaxel who can tell him about playing freshman year at Az Central JC, sophomore and junior year at UAB making the NIT 1 year and losing first round in NCAA, then he can talk about what it was like to play for Dusty May at Michigan who is no longer there.
Ooooohhh . . . Spicy . . . I like it!

I just can't imagine how that's the case.

2026 -- Quentin Coleman, 5 star. Lucas Morillo, high 4 star.

2024 -- Will Riley, 5 star. Morez Johnson, high 4 star.

Those guys ain't cheap.

I wanted to look at these class comparisons. 247 has ballooned the 4-star rankings in bball.

2024: 116 players ranked 5-star or 4-star
2026: 150+ players ranked 5-star or 4-star

150! That would be the equivalent of almost the top-1000 HS football players being 4-stars.

sold! methinks we'd offer a very compelling situation for Cason. definitely worth heavy exploration

yet another exhibit on keeping a ride in your back pocket is the smart play

I'm assuming Gonzaga is going to pay Cason whatever because their backcourt is in shambles after last week.
