Coaching Carousel (Football)

A decision NC State may regret.

My favorite stat about them: NC State football has both won and lost at least 3 games in every season since 1975.

There's not another Power Five school with a streak anywhere even close to that. Mid U.
If I read it correctly, NC State has played in a Bowl Game 11 of the past 12 seasons.

I recently read something claiming that NC State has finished with at least three wins and three losses every season since 1975. No cities given, and I don't care enough to look it up or figure out what program might be in a distant second, but that seems like a remarkable achievement of consistency.

The carousel will start the spin cycle as we enter November. I don't know if Rutgers has the $$ to fire Schiano and hire someone else but there might be movement there. An uncomfortable conversation might be incoming at Clemson. FSU will almost certainly open unless they go on a big time heater. TAM boosters are plenty restless as well. Neon Deion might have run it's cycle at Colorado. I wouldn't be building a house in SoCal right now if I'm Lincoln Riley.

Maybe BB can get Deion as DC; he did play All Pro defense in the NFL. (We could even offer to buy out his contract.)

A&M firing Elko a year removed from a CFP season would be a choice.

Theyre crazy but you gotta imagine he has at least another year & QB to try again.

I understand that what it takes to be successful as a head coach these days has changed dramatically from even five years ago but on its face I can't see why NC State is doing this. Maybe Doeren doesn't want to raise money.

I can't believe that they're going to find somebody better than him. That record, we would have loved in this town.

Aranda available too. Wonder if the shared Wisconsin DNA gets him a look here or if he's getting a lower tier job instead...

He became Wisconsin DC after Bret left, but crossed paths once or twice in the SEC. If he's interested, Whitman will find the money somehow to make a competitive offer. Lunney makes over double now than he did in 2022

A buyout of a good coach is a complete waste of money in this environment, you can take that exact same sack with a dollar sign on it and apply it more directly to winning.

Applies double with Dan Lanning who is a great coach, a genuine difference-maker.

This might change again as the rules evolve, but unless you're moving on from a pre-NIL figure who isn't built for the new college sports (Locks, Dabo?) teams firing coaches to search for their Cignetti are only digging their hole deeper.

One thing that has bouncing my head:

With the rise of college football GM, would Chip Kelly consider being a head coach if he worked with a strong GM who done all of the NIL and other roster construction stuff while he focused on the tactical side of the game?

Chip wouldn’t total control of roster construction, just like he did in the NFL. It’s the recruiting and $ headaches he doesn’t want to deal with.
