Has anyone ever done this well as a rookie coming from the most unheralded status coming out of high school? From barely recruited to one of the top rookies in the NBA in one year.
Yaxel? Of course he's 24.

Well,

Ja Morant was unranked out of HS.

Damian Lillard was unranked.

CJ McCullum was #451.

But yes those guys did stay more years in college than Keaton.

No comparison. 6 years in college and was a possible top draft pick the year before he went to Michigan. No one even knew who Keaton was before his one year at Illinois.
Maybe look at Yaxel's WIKI before posting this. He was a lesser known coming out of HS than even Keaton. OP said coming out of HS.

He had significant issues with his grades and academics. Thus, he wasn’t able to participate in HS basketball or D1 college basketball.

It was only in April of 2023 that he became D1 eligible, after spending 3 years at Arizona Western Community College.

But he had 6 years of college ball before the NBA. I was looking at how quickly Keaton went from an unknown to a top rookie. Most of the top draft choices have had a following for a number of years even going back to early high school even if they are one and done. How many one and done's were unknow coming out of high school and then became a top performing rookie in their first games? (At least the first 3 or 4 for Keaton. Let's hope he can keep it up)

Keaton's great. However, again I was replying to OP's original thought of coming out of HS. Yaxel went to work at a warehouse directly after HS. Again, read his WIKI and you'll see he was much less sought after than even Keaton.
