Illinois 112, Penn 70 Postgame

21.8% of our possessions ended with a turnover. Definitely something to clean up.
I 100% agree that this needs to be addressed.

That being said, the idea that a team scores 112 points on 1.33 points per possession while still turning the ball over 19 times and on a fifth of possessions is mind blowing.

That was fun. In all honesty, I hope Fran and Penn have a great season and win the Ivy--not because it would make us look better, because we don't need the help, but because Fran has always entertained me, he's a really good coach, and he and Brad seem to have a very solid relationship.

Perfection? 19 turnovers (5 from Vaaks). As a matter of fact, Vaaks had a terrible game--missing free throws and all his 3 ptr. attempts as well. Lincoln Williams, Ethan Brown, QC, and Zens on the other hand....that's 4 true freshmen playing at an elite level. As others have said, we are deep.

11/6/2 is a terrible game?
How bout he just didn’t shoot well from 3.
Vaaks busted his a$$ on D last night.
And if you aren’t ready for a few turnovers from this turbocharged show, you are gonna have some rough watch nights.

Tough crowd. Shot obviously wasn’t falling but he definitely impacted winning in different ways which is what Brad has wanted to see from him

He got super fired up about forcing a couple defensive stops so you know the staff's message is sinking in and he want to be better on that end. Effort is still a little inconsistent sometimes though, especially after a rough offensive possession for him. He looked a little pouty sometimes last night but it was always over quickly.

A lot of times I think he’s just gassed from not being used to playing like this lol

That could be too. He subbed himself out in the first half because of that although he might have gotten the wind knocked out of him too.

All these guys are gonna be gassed playing like this. Im gassed watching it on TV.

By the end of the year our conditioning is gonna be insane. Any team trying to play a short bench against us is gonna be in trouble.

Best way to describe this team is relentless. I really thought Penn might give them a scare. But we play together and everyone looks bought in.

Sometimes when you are coming off a great season and everyone is hyping you up all off season your head might get a little too big. Not this team. They look hungry and laser focused on the goal.

we're an absolute wagon. and the kicker is that we're not even remotely close to what we're gonna be. this is gonna be a helluva ride
Trying to enjoy the season. We will hit some rough spells and the competition is gonna step up. But it's hard to watch this team & not daydream of Detroit. It takes luck at the right times, stay injury free, be right on the right days, but this is as good a shot as we have ever had to cut down the nets at the end. Let's roll that wagon right onto Ford Field & take the nets with us on the return trip.

I'd slow down a bit here. Yes, the turnovers. Yes, he missed shots. He defended his !!! off and had 11pts 6reb and did not even play half the game (19 mins).

I'm encouraged by the defense and rebounding. That's what we weren't sure he could do. And sure, lets see him do it in Lubbock, TX and Durham, NC.

Thought he was fouled on a couple of those turnovers as well...

EDIT: Sorry I didn't see the replies before commenting, looks like its been discussed already!

How ironic and hilarious that our Summer of Ninth Man Drama was prophetic.
We are legit 8-9 deep when fully healthy.
And whether your 9th man is ZZ or Lincoln, maybe the freshmen are gonna have freshman nights….but it ain’t gonna be all of them on the same night. 🧡

Also shoutout LW for making the one 3 he took. Will be huge if he can at least shoot 30ish% from 3 to keep the defense pulled out

Very solid effort tonight. The twins played a little better in the second half but still hoping for more from Tommy and Z. Maybe just an off night for them both

Hitting with both late season “flyers” in Lincoln Williams and Zavier Zens is just unfair….

I’m watching these guys and you can’t “find the freshmen” immediately. They aren’t doing too much…all seem bought in to their role.

This recruiting class is a masterpiece by Brad and Co.

Only one surefire ⭐️ in Coleman and he wasn’t graded that way when he went all in…

19 turnovers is not "a few." Posters are right about his defense, though. Better than expected and for sure encouraging.

Gotta get Ben H in as a special assistant to help these guys get to 4-minute mile times haha
