This was a tough game to lose, but the Illini showed up and demonstrated they deserved to be there. They gave us a wonderful season with their talent and their closeness as a team. Thank you all.

Admittedly, namings like this appear to be a sign of the times. I just find it unfortunate that, for those who don't know the history of the university or Memorial stadium, it will appear the stadium is a memorial to Gies and not, as it is, a memorial to the Illini who fought in World War I.
