My eye test agrees, admittedly with no data to back it up - just going off the feels from the half dozen games I've this season. I wonder if player safety through practice and the way rules like targeting are enforced are causing it though.

What's weird about that exchange is that if he's trying to connect with the reporter or change the tone rather than dive into the question, what he did will have the opposite effect, not just for that reporter, but everyone else.

Are there? AFAICT the sports doing well. I get the nostalgia, but I don't think you would get any from Indiana fans, or any other program that was on the outside looking in for that matter, penalized for following the rules. Or the athletes, who were throw-aways if they weren't NFL level...

I think the NCAA would have been in a stronger position if they made the 5 for 5 change apply evenly / retroactively. I mean, obviously the fix is to negotiate with the players, but they seem incapable of going that route given how many lawsuits they've lost.

When I think of parity, I'm personally not thinking of all 360+ bball teams or all 120+ fball teams. I think of parity towards the upper end where teams compete for conference or national championships. I'm not even sure where I would draw the line in either sport, or which sees bigger upsets...

There's a lot of differences between the two sports. Way more bball programs outside the P4 for example, much larger post-season tournament, and much lower cost to get in the door. I suppose you'd need to define a measure of parity to compare the two.

My sense is the other way round. Large rosters in football make it more difficult to capture the same % of talent as basketball. I think both suffer from a small number of well funded programs building superteams. Freshman seem to make a bigger difference in basketball too, so perhaps more...

Just did a google search and the game was $1.5 mil to WMU. Relative to their budget that's enormous.

$ Everyone knows friendly officiating for the home team (or just plain bad calls) happen and can swing the game. Doesn't mean the WMU athletic dept doesn't want to get another game bought out. They've been doing road games with BIG opponents for years.
