    The Illinois Coaching Staff Search

No closer to a 3-4, 4-3, or 3-3-5. The new guy has a clean canvas and bare cupboard.

The caption below caught my eye, along with the amount of underclassmen Tennessee was forced to play. “Bajakian uses a pro-style read option offense, which would be best suited for a dual-threat quarterback.” Nobody can be as bad as McGee these past two years.

At this point, I'd be happy with either Canada, Longo, or Bajakian - in that order.

An old article, but Bajakian’s been down this road before. https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/tennessee-football/tennessee-offensive-woes-philosophy-vs-personnel/

Didn’t McGee have a checkered past as a QB at ASU? I remember he suddenly transferred after some incident or two. Paul Williams was not really a surprise with Abraham joining, but really hoped McGee would’ve worked out. Okay, next...

Is this really a discussion or point of contention? Florida, Texas, and California are far superior to Illinois in talent, so the staff are smart in leveraging those states to fast-track the rebuild. In an ideal world, we’d be first consideration for in-state players (and in St. Louis), but...

The heavy signing of defensive backs can only be seen as a good thing. Could also indicate Lovie and Nickerson tend to convert the largest safeties into outside linebackers to optimize team speed. Guess I don’t share the pessimism seen in earlier threads, but I like where we’re going with the...

Oh!! I have no idea IF Phair would go or why - chopping block/mutual parting, or otherwise. That was equal parts mere speculation; throwing something against a wall to see what sticks; and anal ventriloquism. Call it what you want. A good point was made about McGee not on the road recruiting...

I don't have anything against him, per se. Just think there could be a better option. Okay, the high-five attempt was a long time ago.

Nothing to base it on - maybe, a desire to not see Scheelhaase become the QB coach - but just don't see McGee leaving next year. He's just getting his players. Williams makes sens, since Abraham will likely take over DB's. Even then, Williams is a pretty good coach. Maybe Phair Williams, and Ligs?

    Looking ahead to 2018

If the OL makes even a small leap, I still think Taylor & Thomas can get us 4-5 wins next season at QB. Not so sure Rivers will walk in and start right away.

    Northwestern 42, Illinois 7 POSTGAME

This is the most optimistic 2-10 I’ve experienced in ages. Things can only get better, once the QB position is settled. Liking what I saw from our freshmen, so holding onto that for next year.

    Game Thread: Illinois vs Northwestern

Are they running a simplified version of the offense? Should they simplify it? The defense shows glimpses of being fun to watch in a couple of years, but the offense is beyond painful. Dare I ask, but are McGee and Butkus up to their tasks? Or is it remnants of Beckman “steaks and cakes”...

    Indiana 24, Illinois 14 POSTGAME

As far as who the QB will be, I’m guessing Taylor. We’re looking pretty good at WR, TE, and RB, so the QB doesn’t have to be all-World - just someone who can run the syetem.
