That would mean the Illini would field an even stronger team. I was basing my guess on a nod to veteran status as starter...and my feeling that who starts is less important than who is on the floor at crunch time. But your insight/knowledge is clearly better than mine (as my moniker suggests)š¤£
Fun exercise while we wait. Just a wild guess given the fact all I know about Illini recruiting (and food) comes from this board:
Maddox
Ty
Storr
Hawkins (dream scenario, but he probably opts for 1) NBA, 2) Europe, 3) social media consultant, 4) football specialist in blocking field goals)...
This sounds too simple, I know: Watching some UConn games, I think we are going to get some good looks -- more than against ISU. If the Illini hit those shots at their normal clip, I think they can score in the 80s. MD may not be able to get all the way to the glass with booty ball, but I do...
And I should add that Momcilovic, who had been a key offensive contributor of late for ISU, had only one point on 0-for-4 from the field. Seemed like Marcus had something to do with that, too.
Could not agree more. Marcus was the game-manager QB last night and his decision-making under that pressure was extraordinary. So many times he started the "hockey assist" that led to open looks (thanks to Coleman reacting quickly to make the weak-side pass or shoot, perhaps his best game this...
Such a strange game. If Illini make 60% of FT itās a blowout. No Shannon for half of the second half. What a gutsy effort.
Weird thought, but I think the meltdown at PSU was baptism by fire. This team has been tough as nails ever since. I will not be surprised if the Illini outscore UConn...
I think (and hope) the Illini win tonight. Regardless, I would like to thank the coaches, players...and fans for making this one of the most entertaining, enjoyable Illini seasons ever for me. The highs have been really high, only one of the lows (PSU) really low and they bounced back quickly...
The thing about projecting transfers is there's no way of fans like me projecting how the fit will work. For example, people looking at Domask at SIU were looking at a guy that was the No. 1 scoring threat and not surrounded by a cast like Illinois has. In fact, the MD we saw in the early days...
In fairness, I think Spradlin was SIUās first choice. I suspect he is hoping the Western Kentucky job opens. That said, some coaches I trust think highly of Nagy. If they can become competitive in NIL in the Valley, Nagy could get the Salukis back into contention in that league.
It looks like Wright State coach Scott Nagy, son of former Illini assistant Dick Nagy (under Lou Henson), is going to be named the new SIU coach unless things fall through. Has had a pretty good run at Wright State.
Looking at rebound statistics gives me some more optimism. As efficient as the Illini offense is, Iowa State's defense does create both turnovers and tougher shot opportunities. The Illini are 4th in the nation in rebounding at 41/game (Iowa State is 249th at 33/game). The Illini are 17th in...
The Morehead coach spoke to how hard it is to prepare for the Illini because of their versatile styles of play and how they adapted their style of play during the game. Cannot recall the last time I heard an opposing coach say his team took the opponent out of their offense...and then got blown...
