They are going to spend a tremendous amount of money on retention for the 2027 roster. They like the 2026 class, and they are going to play a large amount of guys in the 2026 season with elgibility remaining for 2027 and beyond.
Next priority is transfer portal.
Distant 3rd in dollar value...

Did anyone ever follow-up on the Partridge situation and what actually happened? Did he verbally accept the Illini DC job and then change his mind...
If Boyd has a good camp, and some games turn into blowouts earlier than expected…I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him get some time in several games.
If they would have been at $15M for 2024 payroll versus $5M.....$25M for 2025 payroll versus $15M.....$35M for 2026 payroll versus the rumored $25M......I would love to see what Bret could do.
I think a handful of the top in-state kids would now at this point choose to stay and play for the...
I do agree with the overwhelming majority of your post, I haven't read Robert's article, but a couple more thoughts below.
Bret has openly said they are only paying 75 guys, so guys 75-105 are not getting any revenue share and they are not actively lining up NIL deals for them. Texas for...
Great offense in today’s world if you have to choose. Ideally you’re really good on both sides, easier said than done with rosters and coaching staffs.
With how quarterback is paid now it’s always going to be more with offense.
I would note that I think the 2nd and 3rd highest paid guys...
I don't believe that matters right now in recruiting. I think the highest priority to a HS kid is how much am I getting paid in year 1, followed by are you sending guys to the NFL, followed by are you winning. I don't think scheme matters to a high school defensive recruit.
I think Bret has...
If they can roll with Boyd at say 2M for 2027, you free up $1M for others. Hauser is apparently getting 3M right now for 2026.
However, have a feeling they are going to have to pay up big to keep a lot of the promising young guys that are scheduled to play major snaps in 2026 and will be back...
Maybe the deal that sealed it was older brother can get a nice NIL deal to be the backup to Boyd in 2027-2028.
Older brother was a sought after recruit, he sat behind Haynes king for 2
Years and lost the job to Alberto Mendoza this past spring.
Not sure you want him to start,
But would be...
Bret's been pretty open in media availability so far that they will take 12-18 players. I think you'll see 2-3 more commit this summer, and then with usual things that occur with the season and with what Bret likes to add right at the signing deadline, or even taking juco/ivy league/d2 commits...
Also why I would give the Illini a good shot in the Bowen recruitment.
Laporta and 2022 was 4 years ago. That’s a long time ago for a 16 year old. That kid will hear that from every single school in his recruitment.
