Underwood has built successful programs at every step along the way. Each time with different assistant coaches. Is this a step backwards? Maybe. But history should tell us he will rebuild and keep going.
I have not read anywhere that he was being actively pursued while convincing players to commit to Illinois. Nor have I read that he told recruits he wasn't going anywhere. People get offered jobs all the time and sometimes they take them. We don't need to read anything nefarious into this.
We worry a lot as a fan base. I long for the day when we as a program don't fret over assistant coaches moving on and how it is going to affect our recruits. I doubt Michigan State, Duke,Kentucky etc. etc...... worry about such things.
Yes, and on this forum the more sure someone gets about a player being a done deal, the more I expect to hear it all falling through an hour before the player was going to commit.
Sometimes I think I would like to just not hear anything at all. And yet here I am back on this site, waiting for...
