    Bowls/CFP Projections

Was just looking at those B1G bowl tie-ins again, and over the last four seasons, the Illini have gone to the ReliaQuest Bowl, Citrus Bowl, and the Music City Bowl (so three of the major tie-ins against SEC teams and went 2-1!). All that is left is getting one of the coveted CFP spots. Coach B...

    Bowls/CFP Projections

Traditionally (prior to CFP), yes. However, the CFP has greatly shifted the quality of the B1G teams fielding these bowl games. I am just happy to see Detroit no longer as a tie-in (at least what the link from Dan shows).

    2026 Season Predictions Thread

Yes, Ferentz gets his 8-10 wins year in and out in a very unsexy way, and in today's game, slightly outside of CFP contention. My in-law Iowa grads always grumble about their product like they were a 3 win team, but the fact remains that they almost always win... a lot. For the last decade...

Can confirm that Purdue has never won a national championship in Basketball or Football. I also refuse to look up IU's stats, as that will likely anger me, but talk about a stupid comment that will likely come back to haunt him.

    Illini Football 2026

Fox 100% wanted to have Nebraska @ Illinois in primetime on a Friday night. The last time they faced each other was a Friday Night B1G Opener on Fox, and it was an absolute home run game for the network. Similarly, with UCLA being on the West Coast, they were likely looking for a more late game...

    Preseason Polls

I personally think that we are getting tons of respect from the coaches to be at #29 preseason, which is a testament to what Coach B has built here in Champaign. As lstewart mentioned, our roster has been nearly completely turned over (and we have a brand new QB in the system). I truly do not...

    Preseason Polls

Last season the Illini started the season ranked #12 in both AP and Coaches poll, and it led to extremely high (possibly unreasonable) expectations. This led to some questioning if the team had a good season when they ultimately finished the season on the fringe top 25 (AP #26 and Coaches #25)...

    Coaching Carousel (Basketball)

My early guess is because Michigan has a lot of money and is coming off a national title (and they are making interim coaching moves to try and keep the roster intact). This will hold some of the dropoff for the moment. The longterm outlook is what should make the rest of us relatively happy...

    Illini Baseball 2026

That does not exactly mean that you are retaining the in-state talent. You can have an entire roster from the state of Illinois and still not be locking down the high end talent, which is what the poster is alluding to.

    College Sports (Basketball)

How would it cost them money exactly? They do not get direct proceeds from any of the bracket challenges. No bracket challenge that I have ever seen has you selecting the winner of the play-in games. I cannot see why any bracket challenge would add in the play-in games as part of their brackets...

    College Sports (Basketball)

Why? It is a complete money play, and it would simply mean more bubble teams play in play-in games on Tues/Wed. I don't see how this fundamentally makes the tourney worse. Sure it makes the last teams in (more) super flawed, but I have enjoyed the at-large play in games. I am all for adding...

    Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

That is definitely what it sounds like the NCAA is planning. The end result will be much less clear, as lawsuits will happen almost instantaneously. I am sure some athletes already have lawyers ready to push a lawsuit through as soon as an announcement is made. The stakes are very high, as...

    Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

Haven't you got the memo that NCAAT results is the only thing that matters? Obviously tongue in cheek, but expectations are always so much higher for a school like Duke, so maybe that is the case -- champ or bust. In his four seasons at Duke: Back-to-back ACC regular season/tourney...
