The Divine Gift of Orange: Why Illinois Shines Brighter Than Tennessee
When the universe was young and the canvas of creation lay bare, God pondered how to paint the world with colors that would inspire greatness. Among His most brilliant strokes was the color orange—a hue of energy, warmth...
Q - Why do Illinois fans not deserve that?
A - Deserve is an interesting word, but I’d say if Illini fans sold out and showed up for home games during a potential 9-3 season I’d agree we’d be more worthy.
I was at the ‘86 USC game in the Coliseum, my first Illini game. And then at the ‘96 game at home and the ‘08 Rose Bowl. Yesterday’s game got ride of some demons. Great homecoming victory against SC.
Illini football is 2-0 against USC football teams in 2025.
Ultimately this decision is that of Josh Whitman. (I doubt Larry said put GIES behind the press box. And it is more likely the DIA talked him into it or made the change without asking Larry.) I’m fully behind Josh: he is doing a fantastic job.
When big change happens quickly - even when the overall direction is positive - there are often smaller things that you won’t like. I agree that GIES rather than ILLINI isn’t the best look behind the press box, but I attribute this action (most likely) to the department of athletics rather than...
That is a good question, and I’m not sure. However, a key difference with this Illini team - compared to prior teams - is depth.
We’ve had one back go down after 1.5 games already. And another freshman expected to see time is out for the season. This season should be more than 12 games - at...
I had a typo - he had one carry this weekend. Four other backs at Georgia had more. And two others had one carry. Josh - based on playing time so far - may have made a bad decision. And I imagine we could use him at some point this year.
I fear we may miss McCray later in the year. (And for his sake, it does appear as though he will get many carries at Georgia.) Our running back room doesn’t feel as deep as other positions.
