At the end of the day, his heart was here, but he needed to take care of his family. If you remove bball and our crazy fandom from the equation, it makes sense. Coulda handled it better, but he was in no position to negotiate his terms, so to speak. In the end, it was family first.

Its not unfair to question his character based off what went down, but here's the other end: if you're not that well-off, unlikely to make the NBA, and have one chance to cash in, you prolly need to take it. Illinois & Co have an informal policy of not ponying up for anything below a borderline...

The morale of this all (if it goes down as is trending) is that Illinois got outgunned by SLU. Think about that for a second. A school that graduates little over 10K+ students a year and considerably less alumni just outgunned a B1G institution with 50+ students a year and a multi-billion dollar...

...almost enough to buy you a McLaren.
