This is the approach of some stuck 20 years in the past. Even if Rogers is a 3 year college player - there’s nothing to guarantee he stays at Illinois.
Also - nearly every championship team has a 1 and done caliber player. If we want to aim high, we have to get top tier recruits.
Pretty sure we would not have the same projections for a top 10 in state 5 star prospect as we would for a high end transfer. The two aren’t really comparable.
I wasn’t even really suggesting money would be under the table. Rather I think NIL brings it to above the table. But I think there are rules within NIL that are surely getting broken by the same peopel that would break the rules before.

Because it’s much easier to convince a teenager to join your team if you guarantee him $X dollars rather than projecting a range. Especially if another school guarantees him $X.
