There are only so many places that will commit $4+ million to a coach, and agents/coaches know this. Additionally, the UI job offers the same program platform that gives any capable coach the same ability to succeed as IU and tOSU. Josh Whitman has a lot to sell and will get/already has the...

...and all of the best candidates at the college level are playing in the tournament. I guess some people here expect a coach to walk away from their team before they've been eliminated or something.

Serious question here... What makes Monty Williams all that different from a Danny Manning in terms of prospective program impact at the college level? Without having watched those youtube clips, just wondering what differentiates them that has us so excited?

Alford makes $2.6m. I can count an additional 2.6 million reasons why someone would head back to Bloomington. Given that he was somewhat on the hot seat before this year, including a $7+ million buyout, I wouldn't be surprised to see them allow him to walk.

The other Ball brothers aren't on Lonzo's level, plus his son is graduating, so I'm not sure how attached he is to the future at UCLA. Sure, he's got a good recruiting class coming in, but a big part of that class, Kris Wilkes, could just as easily get out of that and stay home at Indiana...

Also, how was Keatts not the obvious play for NC State to some of you? As great of a candidate as he appears to be, that fit made too much sense.

Thanks for finding this. I actually do recall all of this now. I've long thought of him as being an aggressive recruiter, and maybe his slap on the wrist 5 years ago taught him a lesson. I still think he is the type of... salesman.. that this program needs to recruit successfully.

Who is the "we" you're talking about, UICFLAMES? ;) Anyways, it's impossible to lump every candidate that applies to one of those two categories and say whether it would be deemed a success or not. Some would be a home run, some solid, and some not so much...totally depends on the person...
