May as well make a thread for this fall sport too.

The Men have been off to a solid start, winning the first two warm up meets easily and be ranked in the top 30 nationally and top 3 in their region.

They ran their first tough meet yesterday, the Coast To Coast Battle in Beantown. It featured #3 Syracuse and #21 Indiana.

Reiser and Davis finished 1/2, edging out three All-Americans from Syracuse and Indiana's Veatch who was B1G freshman of the year last year. Syracuse's depth won the meet, but Illinois soundly beat Indiana. That may be a point come regionals.

Team Scores:
Syracuse 35
Illinois 56
Indiana 106

The woman did not fare as well, they have some work to do on that program.

The Men race at the Louisville and Wisconsin meets and will be looking to get points at both with those fields.

The women's team is nearly all freshmen. They have a new coaching staff who are virtually starting over. Of all the bad hires that Thomas made, Garner was clearly the worst and took what had been a program that was competitive nationally to one that became the laughing stock of the B10. To make matters worse, everyone (except Thomas apparently) new how bad Garner was because he had been an assistant here under Winkler a few years earlier and had alienated high school coaches all around the state.

On 9/30, Illinois ran at Louisville They were led by Davis who finished 12th and the team finished 5th out of 17 overall, a decent performance. Northern Arizona ran away with the team title, having finishers 1-4, 9, and 10. Six guys before Davis is insane. Illinois did beat Purdue and Wisconsin.

On 10/13, they ran at Wisconsin, and it was a complete debacle. The team finished 28th out of 35. Michigan, MSU, Minnesota, Purdue, and Wisconsin all beat them. The only bright spot was Davis finishing 6th behind national champion contenders Knight (Syracuse) and Fisher (Stanford) and three Norther Arizona runners (they won this meet as well).

The Illini Open was 10/20 and varsity was held out.

B1G Championships are 10/29 and very wide open at this point.

NAU is legit. It helps that they train at over 7,000 feet altitude all the time, that's for sure, but they have a great coach there, too.

BYU will make it interesting. Anything can happen, but right now it looks like those two programs are clear of the field.
