As a proud member of Illini Nation as well as a Chicago White Sox fan... all I can say is congratulations to the Cleveland baseball club.

In a season where for a long time it looked like no one wanted to win the Division... the Guardians began to play winning baseball just at the right time and seize control. And now after last night's result, likely Division winners.

In short, Cleveland did what the White Sox should have done. But the Sox didn’t... despite given chance after chance to play good consistent ball and win a Division that they were predicted to win easily when the year started.

In sports, no one hands you anything. You earn everything. And that’s what Cleveland did. They went out and grabbed it.

The question now for the White Sox and Sox fans... where do things go from here? This club is lacking in talent in certain areas and even more important is that they are lacking in... Heart. These guys play without energy and passion. They play like They are in the dentist’s chair and can’t wait to get out of there and go home.

The Illinois roundball program turned around when they got the right guys at the top to build a winner. That’s what the Sox need to do as well... but Sox management seems clueless about how to do this. As they have for generations.

So, it’s just another year of disappointment on the Great South Side of Chicago and a time of anger and sadness for Sox Nation.

And what’s the cure for Sox fans in the off-season?

ILLINI BASKETBALL. And an improvement Illini group of footballers.

I’m not saying they can’t have another playoff season, but until the ownership changes or person calling the shots, this franchise is stuck in the mud.

Nothing will change with Jerry Reinsdorf still calling the shots.

Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams don’t go off scot free either. Especially Williams as I don’t even know what he does anymore. He’s become the Sox version of Ted Philips.

The basic problem is that The Owner and Sox fans do not have the same objectives.

The Owner is OK with staying mediocre and making MLB Owners' money.

Sox Nation would like... a winning ball club... a Playoff ball club... a World Series ball club.

In New York, the Yankees are quickly and thoroughly roasted by everyone involved if they are not near the top and competing for World Championships.

In Chicago... it's more like, 'Well, there's always NEXT YEAR'. Quiet resignation. Even acceptance. Not by all Sox fans, but in general. And very much by the Chicago Media with a few exceptions. But definitely none of that 'New York City' level of outrage.

Sox fans -- to our credit -- keep high expectations. It would be nice if White Sox ownership had the same idea.

In short... Chicago needs to stop thinking like this 'Second City' mentality and get a real winning attitude.

The White Sox had the 7th highest payroll in MLB this year.

The White Sox puts together a team to win in a weak division. Sox fans don't want to just make the playoffs we want to win when getting there. Went from back to back playoff appearances for the first time to missing out of the expanded post season.

Were the Sox trying to win, or trying to tank. Teams always say that they are trying to win. but it's really hard to tell sometimes. They hired an old hall of famer to distract from the outcome, right? Whichever they were doing, they did it poorly.
Maybe next year we will be able to tell.

“Were the Sox trying to win, or trying to tank.”

The White Sox players weren’t ‘trying’ at all at anything. That was the problem all season long. This was a totally unmotivated group. And the Manager did nothing all season to light a fire under these guys and get them interested in playing good baseball.

It was clear to many early on that the hiring of The Manager was a mistake. But the players bear their own responsibility for not performing up to the kind of money they make... nor were they being true to the White Sox paying fan base and solid core of passionate fans.

The failures of the White Sox organization are many. And no single thing will turn this franchise around. But, a start is...

1. A Manager capable of leading a mix of high-paid veterans and young guys. A Manager capable of gaining the respect in the locker room.

2. Players that CARE. If the current group doesn’t care enough then bring in guys who do. At the very least, that’s what fans count on: Players that bring their best every moment to the ball park. We saw very little of that in the 2022 White Sox.

3. Better player development for the guys who you keep around. Like, learning how to field and catch the ball. Sox fielding has been dreadful for years.

4. Building up the farm system.

5. Be more responsible to the fans at every level. Quit taking fan’s time, money, and interest for granted. Time and money is tight these days and getting tighter. Earn that trust back from Sox fans.

Has the hiring actually been confirmed?

Also, I saw that they canceled Soxfest for next year due to "factors".
it hasn’t & I don’t think it’s a done deal
and
that makes zero sense to cancel the Soxfest unless they are just scared to death of fans yelling the entire time

Events like Soxfest are something that actually puts fans in a position of importance. In a sense, it’s a way of saying Thank You to fans for making the time and effort to be fans of the organization.

Events like Soxfest should NEVER be cancelled for any reason. It’s a once-a-year nod to honor fans and let fans have a rare chance to voice their likes and concerns directly to the organization.

This cancellation is disrespectful to Sox fans who deserve better. Sox fans have shown incredible loyalty over the many generations to Sox teams that were good — and many times — anything but good. The right thing to do is to do everything you can to embrace and welcome fans instead of hiding from them.

When the Sox succeed on the ball field it is not because of Management but in SPITE OF current Sox Management.

Sox players don't just compete against other Major Leaguers. Too many times the Sox are competing against the cluelessness of their own bosses.

There's the Espada smoke, the Ozzie report that he's interviewing and now Ozzie himself says he's NOT interviewing for the job.

Who knows what to believe. I wouldn't be surprised if Tony suddenly gets a miraculous health boost and decides to come back for another year at this point.

If they were to announce Espada as the hire, it would have to be until Houston is done in the postseason, no?

Guessing the "factors" for cancelling Soxfest are them not wanting to deal with droves of angry fans in person.
