Wow. This does seem strange. How disappointing. Along with it looking like both Trent and Da’Monte leaving for sure, this changes everything about next year. I don’t know where he’ll find a better opportunity. I wonder if he knows something we don’t yet, like, God forbid, both Kofi and Giorgi are gone, too. I am really, really sorry to see Adam go...

With no sit out year, this whole transfer situation is not surprising. Every one of these kids is a free agent who has the opportunity to find out if there’s a better option out there for them. And as far as loyalty goes, every one of these schools has benefited more from the player than the player from them.

Need NIL for the players and then need sit out year reinstated to preserve the product quality.

This is a huge bummer but honestly not super shocking. It’s pretty clear that Curbelo is going to be the replacement for Ayo in terms of being the lead ball handler next year. I imagine Miller’s plan heading into this season was to be the secondary guard behind Ayo for a year, then take the reins after Ayo goes to the NBA. Curbelo looking like an absolute superstar has made Miller’s path to being THE guy at Illinois much more unlikely.

AM’s circle wanted him to be the guy next year which clearly wasn’t going to happen.

Franklin going to fill this void just fine.

I had heard that this was a real possibility from someone that knows him through AAU ball. I was hoping it would not happen since there had been no word.

Did you also hear why it might be a possibility?

So does anyone think this has to do with multiple things? I'm thinking AM knows Curbelo is the primary ballhandler moving forward. I also wonder (hope) that AM is aware of an incoming transfer (Franklin) and/or HS recruit (Tyty or Podz) that could steal some of his minutes.

This is a huge blow even if Franklin comes. You lose a plus shooter and plus defender and a homegrown talent. It's not a good look to have Illinois kids transferring out
This. 100%. Imo, we need the in-state talent to stick around if we ever want to be a consistent force. I thought having Ayo and then AM coming here would do big things for our future prospects. Ugh.

Adam Miller is 1000x more replaceable than Andre Curbelo. I get it’s not great for optics but surprising transfers in this new climate is going to be the norm. Hate to see anyone transfer but this is not surprising to me whatsoever.

Dude was a freshman starting on a top 5 team in the country.

If Adam Miller is really transferring because of Curbelo becoming a star (at a different guard position!!) that is one of the softest, weak minded things I've even seen from someone at our program. Kids a 2 guard, newsflash you're gonna have to play with talented point guards.

If these rumors are true, honestly good riddance...we don't need that kind of mentality on our squad.

This blows but it is the nature of this year. I imagine we will benefit from the portal far more than fall victim to it. He is not irreplaceable. His defense will be missed though. If this is about him being the man (which I doubt it is), we don't want him anyways as he is not close to becoming the man.

The skills are replaceable no doubt. The perception is not. We need to keep in-state kids here. The next 4-5 star player that comes along is going to see Ayo's success but also AM's transfer.
