You've evidently been watching Illinois basketball for as long as I have...seen it all.
What else are schools supposed to do besides start creaning players left and right? If the players want the ability to just quit the team and go to another school then coaches shouldn't get frowned upon if they don't honor a 4 year schollie to kids that can't cut it or don't fit in. You can't have a label(Creaning) players without having a label for these kids that have no commitment to the coach and team. I guess we just stick with "quitter".

This is the drawback for the player. If you put in protections to protect the scholarship/player to school A, the program will not be able to push forward. I feel that once they go in the portal, its BYE-BYE. Most of these kids and handlers have been working on this for a time so once they walk through the door, there is no turning back. Also, I agree with you as these kids cannot sit on the sideline and pick and chose. They need to pick a place before spots start drying up. If I am a kid either in HS or college looking to transfer, I am picking a place ASAP. You snooze, you lose. Kids have 2-3 years to decide before their senior year. I know, its the handlers and the parents and if it were me, I would decide myself. I chose my school without anyone directing me. It’s not that hard ..

When I see these pictures and read the words written him leaving REALLY hits home. Sad....but I wish him well. Leaving Pro sports teams in baseball/basketball and football is a yearly event...sad to see it happen in college. UNTIL we get a GREAT transfer or 2-3....then it's "Miller who?"

Illinois transfers due to the "Slush Fund" scandal. Rich Jones to Memphis: Steve Kuberski to Bradley: There may have been others. Jones played in the old ABA. Kuberski played in the NBA.
In my opinion part of the reason Griffin left is he didn't like playing defense. While he was a good 3 pt shooter and good on the drive, he was all offense. On defense he was the worst player on the floor, always loosing track of his man. Syracuse had exactly what he wanted no man to man defense. With the zone he wouldn't have to chase people around and fight thru screens.

If you told me two weeks ago Miller and Boakye would be teammates next season, I would have been happy to hear the good news.
I've found what I enjoy most in TV/Movies is character development. For this reason, I like TV shows better than movies. This tends to extend to my sports consumption. For me to enjoy the "character" to the extent I want to, they have to stick around. I can't get attached in 1 year. I especially can't get attached if they are just skipping off to another college team.

Ned Stark was a pretty big dagger to me. Only 1 season with his role.
Griffin was a good 3 pt threat but when driving to the basket it was an adventure, not a great ball handler. He could have helped this year.
What happened at Syracuse this year with him? He was having a solid year but the last 4 games of the year he averaged 13 minutes and 2 pts a game.
Syracuse apparently played their best basketball of the year with Griffin spending less time on the floor. He’s obviously athletic, but still learning the game. Boeheim found out what Underwood already knew. Yet last year there was talk on the board about how Griffin should have gotten more time on the floor. I guess coaches do know something.

Griffin's a good example of the limitations of stats/advanced stats. I was one of those guys, b/c I saw us often go on big runs when he was in the game and what his spacing did for our offense. He literally had the best box plus-minus on the team -- better than Ayo, better than Kofi...everybody. And he was putting up good counting stats at Syracuse for awhile, but the team was so-so at best. The limited run I saw of him in the tourney was a drive to the hoop where he threw the ball straight to the opposing team, which kind of summed up what's happened as he's tried to become more of a ball handling threat.Syracuse apparently played their best basketball of the year with Griffin spending less time on the floor. Good reminder that things aren't always linear and are always context dependent. A guy's contributions in 10 min against the second team does not mean he will produce 3x the contributions in 30 min against the other team's starters. And a lot of this depends on what the coach wants to do. Want to just try to outshoot the other team? AG might be very useful. Want to beat the other team on both ends of the floor? Then maybe not.

This worries me too. Over two years here he still hasn't put on that much bulk. Hope he's just one of those guys with wiry strength, but I'm worried the B1G will take a toll on him.

I wish Adam Miller would be back next year and surprised to hear the announcement like everyone else. But having observed Coach Underwood the past few years, he seems to have this type of transfer activity at the end of the season, so I'm guessing he meets with players and if they are not happy, might even encourage them to look at transferring. Just a guess, but it actually helps the coaching staff to know right after the season, so they know how many spots to fill. And I doubt the coach wants guys coming back if they don't want to be there. Could be the best situation for all involved.
