I think there is a strong possibility that Miller was headed for a Trent Frazier type of role here. He and his family had much bigger aspirations when he came out of HS. I, for one, can't blame the kid for the decision.
I had the same thought the other day. I was skeptical that he was just going to step into the Ayo star role, when skill-wise he seems like more of a defensive stopper/3-point shooter that can drive to the hoop once in a while.
Either way did not see this coming. 😕

I think this goes from reload to rebuild, but not rebuild in the traditional sense. The transfer portal will give us a leg up from the traditional rebuild with high schoolers over a couple years. This is all about making sure we get the right players to come in.
I think players should have the freedom to move colleges, but this takes a lot of fun out of college basketball.

Kofi the only player on the roster that decides that imo. This team can still be very good.

Really unfortunate, but totally Illinois sports. Lose in the second round to a huge underdog as the overall 2 seed, then this news....one step forward two steps back. Constant gut punches for Illini sports fans. Will it ever end?

As far as Miller, really hope he reconsiders and ends up coming back. Given that the staff stuck with him throughout the season, leaving him in the starting lineup when he really had no business being in it for most of the year and constantly supporting him and defending him in post game, it would be hugely disappointing for him to turn around and leave.

I expect he will end up at Mich, having moderate success but torching IL every time we play them the next 3 years.
We all know that 18 to 19 year old's do things that are not always the most thought out sort of decisions. I love AM's game, and I hate to see him leave, but entering your name in the portal does not mean that he is leaving. It just increases the possibility of leaving. Whatever, this is a very strange year, and it will be interesting to see what next year's team looks like.

College Bball is tough these days. Imagine having to go out and find, interview/vet and land 30-50%% of your staff every year. Yes, they get paid alot, but boy no sleep for the weary.

That's it - forget this one and done stuff - lets go for the six and done guys! Who's with me!!!???

I honestly thought this was an April Fools joke. Many have said that he would we hard pressed to find a team better equipped for him. As a freshman he started every game. Defense was ahead of his offense but I was looking forward to year two. More open looks, more driving to the basket & playing a bigger role. I did see some moping on the bench but I also saw a guy jumping in the air in celebration before Ayo dunked the ball or before kofi dunked. I remember curbelo stripping a player in the Iowa game & Miller was the closest person to curbelo on the breakaway dunk. Miller was screaming in celebration. I knew there would be defections but this one hurts.

In 25 years we will be talking about Ayo with fond memories still. In 5 years we'll talk about what's his name, that Adam Miller kid. Just like with JCL. He had the opportunity to build a nice legacy here, but I guess he wasn't interested.

Gotta love Curbelo posting on Instagram about how Alfonso Plummer would be a good replacement on Illinois for Adam Miller already lol.
Is this legit or tongue-in-cheek Boriquen pride for a fellow islander? Was hoping AM would be around for a couple years, Plummer just has a season of eligibility I believe.

The only thing I can come up with is that he wants to handle the ball more in order to get to the NBA
Seems like that opportunity would be available next year if he was capable.

Ugh. Never fun to see this. But other than the smooth lefty shot for an open 3 and a nice pull up jumper from the elbow, I didn't see a whole lot of offensive prowess in terms of scoring, especially when anyone keyed in on him. Started having some success driving more toward the end of the season but didn't seem to get up to the rim easily when finishing in traffic, often shooting low after contact. Very curious to see if he has more success elsewhere but also happy to welcome another competitor who wants to be on the team.
Did anyone else notice he seemed to miss most of his three's he took when he didn't go up with a straight back. Maybe just something I thought I saw.

So the big question is will we come out as winners or losers in transferpalooza 2021? The expectation on here was we'd come out way ahead but right now we're starting from behind. This will be a pretty big test for this staff.
In recruiting always expect us to come out on the wrong end. It’s easier that way.
