This is what I saw from the beginning. His only contribution seemed to be as a shooter from the arc (earning my respect and that of most with his focus to become and effective defender) and on the few occasions he drove to the rim....which he seemed to do quite easily though not often...he seemed to have no idea how to finish. No tear drop, no stop and pop from 8 ft, no reverse, just nothing effective.,....simply how to finish against an athletic 6'8" jr. or sr. was a mystery. Toward the end of the season, he was able to get it done with a reverse and a couple other moves. AM has enough skill and athleticism to learn options quickly and execute. But it takes work in the film room, repetitions, listening to coaches, and learning from Ayo and Curbelo with whom he needs to pick minds. Watching the guards from Baylor should help also....they could score whenever they wanted and he is an inch taller than one and an inch shorter than the other....so pretty much same size and somewhat similar quickness.

What he needs is more patience, and I do believe he is a hard worker. If he wants to be great and play for a contender, he was in the best place possible. And what he needs to know is that every coach in the land will tell him they can do a better job of preparing him for the NBA...but few can...if any. What I don't know is what kind of limits BU put on him, but we have not seen that in the past and I am certain Coach would love to trust him to do whatever he thinks (preferably knows) he can do.

AM to me seems to be the perfect example of raw basic talent that has been told for years he is elite....and thought he was. He can be in time and along with hard work, that is what it takes. Ayo was also planning on a one and done...and will go down as an all-time Illini great....but he was far from NBA ready as a frosh as one could imagine. But what Ayo will be remembered and admired for by his coaches, teammates, and more mature Illini fans was that he kept his mouth shut and outworked the competition to become a First Team All-American. No one respects that more than I do.

I expect him back simply because there is no better place for him or his future. I don't believe Ayo, Trent, or Damonte had any problem playing with Curbelo....anyone know different?
Adam Miller is a Soph version of Davion Mitchell. Plus D is what will get him to league and he is on way as an Illini

AM has a long long way to go to make the NBA. Not saying it can’t be done, but it would take a lot of work.
I look forward to the time when AM, if he still remains an Illini, blows past defenders like Davion Mitchell does.....THAT will take a lot of work from AM, as he hasn't shown that explosiveness yet....

I actually do think that AM has the explosiveness, but he needs to work on finishing at the rim - it felt like 75% of the time that he drove to the basket, he was either blocked or lost the ball midair. But he definitely still can work on agility as well.

I think people forget that Ayo had trouble finishing his freshman year. It’s a skill that can be learned. Andre Feliz was not explosive but was a great finisher.

My post was in reference to the comparison to Davion Mitchell, not that AM has or has not got explosiveness....

Davion Mitchell showed that he has the quickness and frame to blow by and finish at the rim.....If AM ever gets close to Davion M. in that regard bodes well for AM as that will be needed , imho, for him to reach his goal of the NBA

If it is, good luck with that.
Why would any player in his situation leave after their freshman year for the constant chaos that comes with that coach and that program?
One and done talent with a coach that has admitted he plays NBA prospects ahead of good college players. I would bet Luka Garza would have struggled to get minutes in that environment.

Rumors are it’s Kentucky
Isn’t it likely that Marcus carr will land at Kentucky too? I don’t know if AM is wanting to go somewhere where he can be the main ball handler, but if both he and carr go to Kentucky, I would personally give carr the ball

They also have two highly regarded point guards coming in. #31 recruit Nolan Hickman and Davidson transfer Kellan Grady. Would be an odd choice given his reported reason for transferring.

So his reported reason IS because he wants a more prominent role? Just trying to clarify things…

When I say reported I mean the reported rumor. Probably should have said "rumored." But what's been rumored is he wants to run the point, and doesn't see that likely if he stays because Belo's going to have that role here.

So, Cal's gonna give Miller the keys? :ROFLMAO:

I think Miller wanted to be the man with the ball late in the shot clock when someone needed to make a play. That wasn't going to happen with Ayo on the floor. Then it turned out with Ayo off the floor it still wasn't him, it was Curbelo and Trent. I seem to remember that after Curbelo signed there where stories floating around that Miller wouldn't sign because he or his camp didn't want to come to Illinois because they had already signed another high profile gaurd. Basically came here with one foot pointing towards the door.

I tend to agree, but what does he going think is going to happen playing major D1 basketball and MAYBE in the NBA eventually? Pretty sure everybody has multiple high level guards...

Agree...he should relish playing with the best. Like Deron Williams relished/cherished playing with 1st Team All American Dee Brown.

I have lived in Ky for almost 30 years and I can personally attest to my hatred for UK...with that being said, if AM goes to UK he will regret it for as long as he lives....
he will be and probably is right now being recruited over by Slimapari.....The hatred that UK fans have for underachieving( in their crazy minds ) players has broken many recruits down to the point of not being able to perform at their best....

Never has Illini fans or Loyalty board came close to the looney tunes that is UK and boards like catspause or others....IMHO, UK would be the WORST place for AM to transfer to if he has a desire to go to the next level....Cal is out for Cal, period, case closed, regardless of how many recruits there go to the NBA....

If this is true. He doesn't care about winning. He cares about being the Man on a losing team

I struggle to believe AM going to UK would be what's best for his development. If it happens, that will seem unfortunate. There are other places to go where it would at least make sense to me. UK isn't one of them.
