Big Ten All-Conference Awards

#1
Update-
Ayo Dosunmu is a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection
Kofi Cockburn also earned first-team All-Big Ten accolades
This marks the first time in 15 years that Illinois has two players on the All-Big Ten first team, since Dee Brown and James Augustine in 2006
Andre Curbelo took home a pair of awards, named the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year and earning a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team
Trent Frazier has been recognized for his relentless effort on both ends of the court, earning a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team while also earning honorable mention All-Big Ten honors

----------------------------------------------------------------

Predictions?

I think Ayo (unanimous) and Kofi both end up first team (though second team wouldn't be a shock for Kofi) with Curbelo on the freshman team and Trent all defense. I think Garza will still end up with player of the year. Missing those 3 games was tough for Ayo, and I think how well our team performed without him will not help his case either.

Rest of the first team - Dickinson, Trevion Williams, GARZA
FOY - Dickinson
COY - Howard

I don't see Dickinson or Williams making first team. Will probably be Ayo, Kofi, Garza, Davis, and Carr or Liddell.

I still think TJD is vastly overrated ....he puts up numbers based solely on being on an absolute inferior product that will cost Archie his job...

TJD misses more close in shots than any other B1G in my memory....

My picks......

Ayo ( also B1G POTY )
Garza
Henry
Kofi
D, Washington

I feel I'm missing someone, but pain pills still ruling my life right now....

Probably politics. Can't have two guys on the first team.

I think TJD and Henry are both deserving though.
Davis' individual numbers are there for sure, I just wonder if how bad Indiana was will hurt him. Obviously I was leaning more into best players on the best teams for my picks. It'll be interesting to see what the voters think.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Ayo win B1G POY and Luka get NPOY. I think something like this has happened before correct?

I think voters will want to get someone from Michigan on the team, but they may end up splitting votes between Wagner and Dickinson (and maybe Livers) in a way to prevent any of them from getting first team. Might be a problem for Liddell and Washington as well.

COY needs to be Painter...After losing Eastern and Haarms I had them pegged to finish in the nether regions of the Big 10; for them to finish in the top 4 is a tremendous achievement.

So many players deserving of first team honors this year, but I'll go with Ayo, Garza, Liddell, dickinson and Henry

Kind of surprised BU didnt make Semi-Finalist for NCOY, but Howard and Holtman did. I realize it is based on growth throughout the year, but that never stopped Coach K from getting it when his teams were stacked prior to start of year. National Media hates Illinois for some reason.

Coach K hasn't won it since 1999. Bill Self has only won it once. It rarely goes to the coach of a team that started the year in the top 5 or 10 unless they have a ridiculously outstanding record (like 1 or 2 regular season losses).

Like Holtman said the votes were in before his team went on a 4 game losing streak. BU not making it was because the best week in Illinois history had not happened. Take the votes now and you will see different results.

The official KenPom all-conference team:

Dickinson is on the all-conference team. Michigan was the co-champ, and he was their best player and a top 5 player on kenpom.

Don't need to overthink that one.

Which, let's be real, the conference guard lineup was...not great this year.
Which may help Carr's chances of sneaking in. Some voters may want something resembling a playable team and the guards were not deep this year.

Garza and Ayo are the only two locks for first team IMO. Hard to say how the rest will shake out. My guesses:

First team. Ayo, Garza, Kofi, Liddell, Dickinson

- I’d give Ayo POY, but it seems it’s going to Garza.

Second team. Trevion Williams, Wagner, Livers, Henry, TJD.

Third team. Wiescamp, Carr, Washington, Harper, Potter or Myreon Jones.

Defense. Henry, Frazier, Kofi, Wagner, Morsell

- Putting Kofi on here might be optimistic but I think it’s deserved. My guess is Wagner or Morsell gets DPOY.

Freshman. Dickinson, Curbelo, Ivey, Newman, Jonathan Davis

- Dickinson is no doubt FOY. Miller ha a chance to make all frosh team but I think he’ll be edged out.

Torvik which is a metrics ranking very similar to KenPom has the top 5 as:

Garza
Ayo
Carr
TJD
Liddell
