An exemption for stadiums is in the works, but the NRA opposes it.

The National Rifle Association, which supported the expanded concealed handguns law, opposes the exemption measure in its current and previous form.

And Republican Rep. Bob Ballinger says you have to prove the stadium is safe in order to exempt guns.

...if college sporting events and the medical facilities were going to prohibit concealed carry, then they must demonstrate that they will provide the necessary security.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey doesn't want guns in stadiums:

"Given the intense atmosphere surrounding athletic events, adding weapons increases safety concerns and could negatively impact the intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Arkansas in several ways, including scheduling, officiating, recruiting and attendance," Sankey said in a statement.

I smell opportunity

Guns in the stadium? Genius! You can sell ammunition and beer and really bring some much needed revenue into the program. Combine the Arkansas education system, firearms, booze, and fans yelling at one another... what could go wrong? Assuming we NEVER play there, I fully support these ideas.

Do they sell beer in the sec? Usually you can't have guns where alcohol can be sold.

I was at a gun range in Lino Lakes, MN and they sold beer at the gun range. Now a gun range is different from a stadium but still I found that very odd. I mean it's also Arkansas should we really be surprised.

I lived in Arkansas for three years during graduate school. Not at all surprised by this. Alarmed, but not at all surprised.

Yeah but in Minnesota beer is basically like milk and water. I mean kids drink beer in Minnesota. It's like wine in France but with more alcoholism.

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema pointed out that the bill might make recruiting more challenging, since it’s somewhat of a harder sell to convince a player to come play his home games in a stadium where drunk people can carry guns.

The conversation around this bill is just so funny.

I completely misread the post! I had assumed that Arkansas was allowing guns into stadiums. How was that already a thing?!

I was taught in my Illinois conceal carry class that you're allowed to legally carry into any restaurant or bar that serves alcohol as long as you have a permit to carry concealed and the establishment does not ban firearms. I was also taught that if you imbibe alcohol with a concealed firearm that you are then breaking the law because your permit does not allow you to be under the influence of alcohol while carrying concealed.

As far as stadiums go, my instructor taught us that you're not allowed to carry in places of public assembly including stadiums. Of course, this is all dependent on your applicable state law.

Generally speaking, nothing good comes from mixing guns and alcohol.
