So....B1G/ACC Challenge going away or?
That's the week leading up to the B1G football title game, no overlap. If the B1G goes thru with this, the schedule suddenly gets intense in the hurry with a Thanksgiving tournament, the ACC/B1G Challenge, then 2 B1G games. Could work out, it would be nice to get rid of that league game between xmas & NYE.

Obviously, marketing driven. Great cross promotional opportunity. Pretty early in the season, but don't feel that conference play starting in late Dec is sacrosanct. Non-conference schedules will be adjusted accordingly.

A benefit would also having students still on campus for conference games.

Yep. This is a big deal. Switch out some non cons to over break.

How could we schedule a nonconference game though when most teams are in conference at that point?

It's going to be difficult finding 2 out of conference games in January.
My guess is that we will still play at least one cupcake game between Christmas and NY. Would love to see us move the Mizzou game to between the holidays. It was that way a few times many years ago. Might not work out for Mizzou due to their SEC schedule. The other option that was mentioned was two additional BIG TEN games added to everyone's schedule. That would be great for the fans, but always begs the question about what's best for everyone's NCAA chances.

Or the B1G can play 2 more conference games and get rid of two of the meaningless cupcake games.

I'd be all for this. I also like the thought of having the opening B1G games on the schedule be while students are still around as opposed to between Christmas and New Year's.

Probably moving 2 games up in the schedule because the 2018 B1G tourney in MSG will be a week earlier than normal. Not sure what will happen in the week between B1G & NCAA tourneys.

Didn't know that. Quite interesting. Means no longer the lead in to selection show as a very minor example of impacts. Week off between play could be good, but definitely a change.
