Illinois experienced those eras of success because of characteristics such as geography, dead center midwest basketball heaven, a avid/rabid fan base, virtually no competition locally with pro sports teams for support/attention, etc. But most importantly, the programs that dominate now and historically have/had one element that Illinois is now missing. The Coach. That's the magic, that's the spoon that stirs the pot. </p><p></p><p>Get the right guy and the all the narratives about how Illinois is becoming irrelevant, poor image, whatever. Those are gone. Seen it before, it will happen again. Hopefully soon because I'm getting/am old.</p></blockquote><p></p>
