The University of Illinois announced today Bill Cubit and the school have agreed to a two-year agreement making Cubit the Head Football Coach, pending approval by the U of I Board of Trustees.

"Bill has stepped in during an extremely difficult period and done an outstanding job in leading our football program since August," Interim Athletics Director Paul Kowalczyk said. "Our student-athletes have responded in a positive manner and we feel he is the best person at this time to be the head coach. We wanted to allow Bill to make decisions regarding the program as the head coach without the interim title, and lead the Fighting Illini into Saturday's game without speculation."

The buyout on this should be pretty LOW, which means that if Cubit doesn't produce next year the new AD will boot him.

Done. I'm done. No more games for me, not until the university gets its head out of its a**.

This is always the case @ Illinois. Just when you think it can't possibly get worse, it does. Truly, we have reached new levels or stupid.

But we just bounced the 2016 class out the door, which is the same thing that would have happened if we hired a new guy.

This is so chickens**tt of the university.

I feel like throwing up.

I live in Des Moines, IA - I should just cave and convert to being a Hawkeyes fan.

Jk, I could never do that but really.

This really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. If they had been able to move quickly and get George as AD, then maybe they could have done a proper coaching search this year. As it stands, by the time a new AD is in place it would have been too late and we probably would have had slim pickins. This is essentially kicking the can down the road for a year so that a new AD can get in place and run the search. If Cubit succeeds next year then this looks great, if he doesn't then the AD can lead the search and get their guy in place.

Well, good for Bill. Hope he proves us all wrong.
But I'd love to know the behind the scenes on the decision.

I'm going to miss Memorial Stadium. I hope this anger of mine subsides.

I still don't believe that this means that Bill Cubit will be our coach next season.

If we find an AD in time and he/she has time to hire a head football coach, then we will buy out, Coach Cubit.

If we do not find an AD in time and/or a coach we love, then we go with Coach Cubit.

Now, had we signed Coach Cubit for a 4 year contract, then that would be an issue.

Let's just wait and see what happens before we panic.

I'm right there with everyone else. I'm done supporting this garbage. Only had season tickets since 2007, but I'm not wasting anymore of my time and money going to games.

I will not buy another piece of merchandise, or purchase another damn ticket! This athletic department is a complete embarrassment!

I'm pretty sure this means he'll be the HC next season. Even if we get a new AD tomorrow. 2017, though is tbd.

I'll continue to support the basketball program, but I'll never watch another Illinois football game until they show some sort of commitment to making the program anything other than a national laughing stock. What a complete joke.

Heavy denial here.

You get what you pay for.....and Illinois has chosen to pay for a lot of empty seats.
