It's hard to believe the Sabres didn't sign him. Even if they thought for whatever reason his skills weren't ever going to translate to the NHL, his work ethic on the ice is just so obvious that you have to find a place for a guy like Hagel in your organization at some level. I guess he's just another example of how you go a decade without making the playoffs...

Classic example of organizational dysfunction. They're in endless rebuild mode. Eichel wants out, which isn't surprising.

Could have been like Kevin Hayes with the Hawks. Or Kubalik with the Kings (wasn't going to sign with them so the Kings got something for him). Is Hagel on record saying why he didn't sign with them, other than the obvious?

Nothing like Hayes. Buffalo didn't offer him a contract.

Brent Seabrook retired today after a 15 year career. Had some clutch goals in the 2013 Cup run. Hopefully they will retire his number 7

Does this affect cap space?
Yes, but (and it's a big but) there are rules. Unloading his contract is going to be much more difficult than Hossa's contract (flat cap, more money & term). I think the Hawks will keep it for the next 2 years, then when it's down to $5.5M for 2 years they'll be able to move it.

As to the salary cap, they can take expiring junk, but it's gotta be expiring.

Depends on who needs to get to the floor but yeah, definitely harder to trade this contract as opposed to Hossa's due to the actual salary. They can put him on LTIR but won't be able to recoup that until first day of the season I believe.

Definitely, as Dallas appears to be the team most likely to catch the Hawks for that last playoff spot. The Stars can't seem to string wins together, which is good news for the good guys.

We needed a bounce back game. And we got it. Regulation win, no less. Lankinen was very good. Boqvist is just scratching the surface offensively, but he's racking up the points. The chemistry between Cat and Kane is sweet. Loved the way Cat exploded for a breakaway. Didn't love Keith leaving the slot to help Boqvist, ugh. I don't miss Strome. Love the physicality from Murph. On to Florida...I expect Mitchell will be back in.

Two wins over the Panthers to right the ship, which looked like it was listing badly. I think we'll need to get to about 65 points to make the playoffs. Lots of important games coming up!

It certainly helped that Barkov was out. Great performance by Lankinen. I'd start him every game, save for back to backs. Big Z had some bone crushers. Love it.

Dach coming back is going to give us a boost. Any day now. Can't wait.
