not many surprises on either list to be honest. Probably will be some trades after the expansion draft.

Zadorov doesn't fit in Colliton's system so I'd expect a bounce back if Seattle picks him. Colliton's "system" is a completely different topic of discussion

This is absolutely tragic. Hoping the survivor is finding healing.

I have a hard time believing nobody knew about this in the organization, players, coaches, or management.

Edit: With the caveat that this is proven true (though I am inclined to believe the survivor).

April 30-miss playoffs

Well, the way last season ended certainly doesn't inspire confidence. At least the rest of the division got worse in the expansion draft.

So many variables with this team make it hard to know what it's going to be. Will Toews be back and playing at a high level? What's the D going to look like? Are we going into the season with these 3 goaltenders again? And if the roster is good enough, is JC the right coach to maximize what we have?

At the moment I don't think you'll find any national prognosticators picking the Hawks for the playoffs. Hopefully Stan can make some dramatic roster improvements before the season starts.

It seems like they are treading water the last several years. Whatever rebuild Bowman is doing doesn't feel like it's advancing at all.

Having your top 2 centers out would cripple many teams. Hawks played more kids than just about anybody. Development year, no surprise.

Seth Jones reportedly set to be traded to Chicago. Once the trade is official, he'll sign a 7 year extension with an AAV of $9.5 million.

AAV is TBD, I think. Possible that it's 8 years for 66M total, so that would be a much more manageable 8.25. I'll wait to see how the dust settles before I react, but I am definitely going to grab a cold beverage...

ugh, terrible contract, not too fond of the trade either (overpay w/next year's 1st and 2nd). Bowman with a sheer desperation move.

Jones is gonna have to be great, to justify his contact and what it cost to get him. Not confident that will happen.

I'd be fine with the package if it did not include a second 1st round pick. Underlying stats are showing a decline but that may reflect Columbus as a team. Also, they aren't close enough to competing for a Cup to justify a swing-for-the-fence type of move like this

Still more work to be done this offseason...but...I think if you're the GM of a team that has finished 7th (last), 6th (+1 from last), 7th (last), and 6th (progress!?) in your division the last 4 years and you trade away a future 1st round pick it's grounds for immediate dismissal.

If Stan did this without 100% certainty that Toews will be 100% next year then I don't know what to say. I guess I understand (and even support) the idea of going all in while Toews and Kane are still useful, but that's a complete 180 from when we could have gone all in during the 2 remaining years of a cap-friendly Panarin.

That makes it a more palatable contract to trade
Full No Movement clause.

Apologies for my incorrect AAV info. Bad info on the internet? Who knew?

FWIW, I'm off the ledge a bit. Jones turned down $80M for 8 from CBJ. Cap is going up, eventually, right?

Next move should be to move Zadorov. A D-corp with De Haan, Murphy, Jones and the kids (Mitchell, Beaudin, Kalynuk) looks good. Now, time to fire Colliton!

They'll let Z walk. No Toews, no Dach, a weak D corps: I have a very difficult time believing any coach could have done better than Colliton.

Let me try it this way, do you think Colliton adds any value?

I agree that last year was a lost cause for the reasons you stated, but I go back to the year before. In JC's first partial year, the glaring problems were a historically bad PK and awful goaltending once Crow went down. Stan fixed those problems for the 2019-20 season with new personnel on the PK and they got grade A goaltending all year from Crow and Lehner. Yet they were still dead last in the division. I understand they beat the Oilers in the bubble, but they were nowhere close to making the playoffs without a global pandemic. I see very little downside and potentially great upside in replacing Colliton.

Who do you replace him with?
