Bobby Bowden 'at peace' after being diagnosed with terminal medical condition
Bobby Bowden has been diagnosed with a terminal medical condition, with the former Florida State coach saying in a statement that he is "at peace."

I remember Bowden was scared of retirement…I believe because his mentor or another coach (Landry?) retired, then died soon after. Good to see he had quite some time to enjoy retirement.

According to an obit I read, he was good friends with Paterno. Also, "He returned to Howard as head coach in 1959 and began making Tuscaloosa treks to cull wisdom from his idol, Alabama’s Bryant, who had become the Crimson Tide coach a year earlier."
Both coaches died shorty after retirement.

True but he also had a lot of health issues before that happened. Even during his later coaching years.

I moved to FL in '89 and I have to root for one instate team. Bobby Bowden with his dag gummit and Southern ways had me. He will be missed.
He almost took the head coaching job at Marshall early in his career, when he was an assistant at West Virginia University. If he had, he would have died over 50 years ago in that plane crash
