Our family is going to do everything possible to travel to a bowl except the pinstripe.

We’ve already cleared our post Christmas calendar. I’m actually hoping for music city (as it’s the closest) or the mayo bowl as I have family that lives about 2 hours from there.

The fans will travel, despite the late season letdown. Especially if we beat northwestern and look competent doing it.
If by letdown you mean that the players gave up, I do not believe you. Were some injured? yes. Did our lack of depth hurt? yes
Did some teams offer better competition? yes. Did the players give up? No.

I agree wholeheartedly! I was just using the words someone else used to refer to the fact we have gone 0-3 and 7-1. I think this team IS as good as advertised, and they've never given up. Made some bonehead plays? probably. Some questionable play calls from the coaches? I think so. We aren't experienced enough or deep enough or talented enough (yet) to make up for those things. But you're right, this team has never given up, and they have been SO much fun to watch, even in the losses.

Having seen Mizzou play in person - each offense would struggle to score vs. each respective defense. It's not a sure fire win.

If both scUM and tOSU make the playoff the Rose Bowl would take Ped U over us?

No way the Rose Bowl would take a 4 loss team over a 2 loss team, unless you win the conference championship. Penn St is a virtual lock if two B1G teams make playoff. Plus, Purdue and Iowa may have jumped us in bowl pecking order. Unless Illini win B1G Championship Game, there is 0% chance of going to Pasadena.

I assume you are figuring we are B1G West champions then

The Rose Bowl is pretty much free to take who they want from the B1G in that scenario of scUM and tOSU both in the playoffs , and I doubt very much they would take us over PSU. Right now, PSU travels way better than us

Much rather see Illinois against an SEC team and not some cream puff from the ACC. Go up against the best to see what you got.

With the issues that Tennessee might run into (2nd string QB, possible upset against Vandy, etc.), I think there is a pretty good chance that the B1G can get three teams in the New Year's 6 (OSU, Mich, PSU). If that happens, there would be two Jan 2nd bowls available. I would think that if Illini win, Iowa wins (then loses in champ game), and Purdue wins; Iowa will most likely slot into the Citrus Bowl. That would leave Illinois and Purdue vying for the Reliaquest Bowl (can't see Minnesota being selected ahead of us or Purdue). Based upon conference record, I assume they would select Purdue, which leaves us at the Music City Bowl.

Therefore, even if Iowa wins on Friday, I believe the best bet for Illinois to still get a Jan 2 bowl game would be for Indiana to beat Purdue, and of course dominating Northwestern in the process. If Iowa were to lose on Friday, as long as the Illini win on Saturday, I think there is a good chance to make the Reliaquest Bowl. Of course if the Illini were to somehow win the division, I think the Illini would be locked into the Rose Bowl or Reliaquest Bowl (maybe Citrus Bowl if three teams get in New Year's 6).

I imagine witherspoon, chase brown, and maybe a couple others will sit out the bowl game and prep for the draft. With our lack of depth I'm ok with an ACC creampuff
I understand the reason kids choose to sit bowl games out, but I hope those guys would opt to play and do their best to go out on a winning note. These guys have been here through some really lean times. I could see if they had played in bowl games each season throughout their entire career here. I hope they choose to suit up one last time in whichever bowl game were assigned to.

I would think the Music City Bowl would be licking their chops to get us. its a 3-4 hour drive for a decent portion of our fandom and 7 hours for the Chicago area people. Lets see how it shakes out
Nashville is loaded with Chicago escapees.

Win tomorrow, and I think we can avoid the possible talks of Pinstripe Bowl or Mayo Bowl. I think Music City Bowl will be the floor, with a coin flip chance playing a bowl in Florida on Jan 2.

Of course, if we win and Purdue stumbles, Rose Bowl is still on the table!

Crazy to think, considering the painful 3 weeks it has been.
