NCAA Tournament tickets punched tonight:

-ASUN: Bellarmine defeated Jacksonville 77-72. However, because Bellarmine is still in their transition period from D-II to D-I, they are not eligible for postseason play. As a result, the auto bid from the ASUN goes to Jacksonville State, who had the best regular season conference record and was defeated by Jacksonville in the conference tournament semifinals. It is the Gamecocks' 2nd NCAA Tournament appearance, with the other coming in 2017.
-Horizon League: Wright State defeated Northern Kentucky 72-71. It is the Raiders' 4th NCAA Tournament appearance, their first since 2018.
-CAA: Delaware defeated UNC Wilmington 59-55. It is the Blue Hens' 6th NCAA Tournament appearance, their first since 2014.
-NEC: Bryant defeated Wagner 70-43. It is the Bulldogs' 1st NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. Bryant has only been a D-I school since 2008.
-Summit League: South Dakota State defeated North Dakota State 75-69. It is the Jackrabbits' 6th NCAA Tournament appearance, their first since 2018.
-WCC: Gonzaga defeated St. Mary's 82-69.

As far as upset by seeds today, it appears we'll have at least 2 in the first round of the MAAC Tournament. 9 seed Rider defeated 8 seed Manhattan 79-67. And 11 seed Quinnipiac defeated 6 seed Marist 77-52. In the opening round of the CUSA Tournament, the 7 seeds in each division, Marshall in the East and Southern Miss in the West, defeated the 6 seeds. Marshall defeated FIU 74-62 and Southern Miss defeated UTSA 67-65. In the Big West, 9 seed Cal State Bakersfield defeated 8 seed Cal State Northridge 58-45.

For those who haven't seen the video of the brawl yet:

That game was so strange. From the brawl to Kiss from Bryant showboating, just strange. Unfortunate about the brawl and a sad sight. Kiss would never get away with the clown show he was putting on. If Verge gets a technical for looking at a ref, I’m not sure how this guy survives a game with B1G (or P5) refs in the tournament.

AAC Tourney in Ft Worth, TX begins Thursday, 3-10-22 at 1 PM EST with Game 1: No. 8 Cincinnati vs. No. 9 East Carolina | 1 p.m. on ESPNU

Cincy is at a borderline NET of 100 for us. A loss would make our loss in the early season to them most likely a quad 3 loss, since it was on a neutral site. If they win, they will likely play Houston next, and while I don't expect them to win against Houston, we'll have to see how their NET ends up (hopefully 100 or better).

  • Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75
  • Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135
  • Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240
  • Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353
The number of Quadrant 1 wins and Quadrant 3/4 losses will be incredibly important when it comes time for NCAA tournament selection and seeding.

Colgate won the Patriot League tournament tonight over Navy 74-58. It is the Raiders' 5th NCAA tournament appearance overall and their 2nd in a row.

There was another NIT autobid clinched tonight with 9th seeded Rider upsetting top seed Iona in the MAAC Tournament quarterfinals 71-70.

As far as other upsets by seed, we have the 7 seed Coppin State upsetting the 2 seed Howard 59-57 in the MEAC Tournament. Rice, the 5th seed in the CUSA West, defeated Charlotte, the 4 seed in the CUSA East 73-61. 7 seed McNeese State defeated 6 seed Northwestern State 80-67 in the Southland Conference tournament opening round.

Biggest losses today for potential bubble teams was Wake Forest losing to Boston College 82-77 in OT in the ACC Tournament and Xavier losing to Butler 89-82 in OT in the Big East tournament.

The last few days have brought a predictable level of mayhem as conference tournaments began to shape the NCAA Tournament bracket.
The highlight thus far this week has been Chattanooga’s 64-63 overtime victory over Furman in the Southern Conference Tournament. David-Jean Baptiste won that game with a long, well-defended 3-pointer that just beat the buzzer.

In the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, Wake Forest had its Big Dance bubble burst with an 82-77 loss to No. 13 seed Boston College. The Demon Deacons are on the outside looking in on most bracket projections and that defeat appeared to doom them to the NIT. Another bubble was burst when Xavier fell to No. 9 seed Butler 89-82 in overtime in the Big East Tournament. The Musketeers led 66-60 with 52 seconds left in regulation time and couldn’t close out the victory.
