Chicago Bears 2015-2016

Good call on Porter. Young and Houston surprised me in a good way this season adjusting to the new scheme but both are still 4-3 DE's so we'll have to see how it unfolds.

Porter should definitely be re-signed. As far as Houston and Young, my expectations weren't that high coming in to this season. Earlier in the season, both were having trouble seeing the field.

As the season went on, Young absolutely started to flash. I think he's someone you can plan forward with. You can always find a roster spot for a guy with potential to get you 6-8 sacks a year. He really looked like he was starting to make huge strides late in the year.

I was dead set on cutting Houston no matter what mid season. But the last few weeks he proved a little something of value. The question is now: Is that value worth what he is being paid though? I'm not quite sure about that. His future is up in the air.

Would love and also expect Porter and Young to be back next year.

In terms of going forward Mcphee, Goldman, Fuller, Amos?

What do you guys think for the draft, I really wanted Jaylon Smith but not sure what his situation will be anymore.

If Nkemdiche is there can't pass on that talent can you?

I wasn't thinking of Amos. I was thinking Houston and Young. Porter, I was thinking know, but I am no scout.

Also, Goldman wasn't on the field yesterday, so that is why I had said 4. I agree, he belongs.

Big off-season. Think Forte is gone so Pace can use his salary to fill a bunch of needs on defense. Need White to be fully healthy and have all of his speed and explosiveness back at WR. Who else do you think will be let go among the starters?

I agree. I think FOrte is likely gone. Other starters, not sure, probably some of our fill in defense players. Or, actually just their back ups so they can become back ups themselves once we snag some starters.

I don't think there is any way Forte is here again next year. I hate to see him go but we have a reasonable replacement and his salary can be used to make a big difference in the team as a whole.

You realize Houston led the team with 7 sacks this year right?

It's too bad for Forte, but I'm not sure there is such a thing as an elite RB anymore. LeVeon Bell, Jamaal Charles, and Marshawn Lynch are as elite as anyone in the NFL and those offenses did not fall off at all with DeAngelo Williams, Charkandrick West/Spencer Ware, and Thomas Rawls, respectively. Those last two, KC and Seattle, actually improved statistically after their superstar RBs went down. You spend your cash on cornerbacks, pass rushers, and tackles, and to a lesser extent, a franchise QB if you have one. Those guys aren't so easily replaced. The rest of your lineup has to be plug 'n play. That's how you build a team these days.

Running backs in the NFL are like relief pitchers in MLB. Everyone needs a good one, but you don't have to expend actual assets to get one.

Depends on who they are able to pick up in the draft and through free agency. I shudder to think about just how bad this would make the offense, but I can see Forte, Bennett, and Jeffery (possible franchise tag use) all gone. Bushrod is also gone.

I really hope that Shea is gone and that we have some real linebackers next season, but he might stick another year just to fill a need until a real replacement can be found. That is how thin this roster truly is.

The good news is, we are set at QB and coach and can only get better from here!

Except once Adam Gase leaves for Philly (or Cleveland or NYG) all bets are off for Cutler and the offense. It could go in several directions but I wouldn't necessarily bank on up with one of the league's top OCs out of the picture. Plus Bennett is a malcontent and Jeffery is constantly injured so I don't know if those guys are the answer even if you re-sign or tag them. The best thing at this point might just be a total reboot.

Gase certainly is a hot commodity. Don't underestimate the control that John Fox and Ryan Pace have over the locker room. Their no nonsense approach and willingness to remove distractions from the team give them a certain amount of leverage with malcontents.
I would love to see one more year from Jeffery on the tag with Kevin White stretching the field, but totally agree that he might need to go due to injury concerns. Thankfully, I have total faith in Pace and Fox to figure that out and make the right decision, which has not been the case for some time.
That leads to another question, what does a total reboot look like in the NFL these days? The Cubs and Astros showed what it looks like in MLB, but I am not sure that model works for the NFL with the absence of a true minor league system.

This is absolutely the wrong way to go about it.

1) The Bears knew Gase would be a hot commodity after this year and had plans in place since they hired him

2) Cutlers improved play will continue as long as loggains is here in my mind. That gu deserves a ton of credit.

3) Jeffery played in 32 games the two years before this year. He had one soft tissue injury lead to another and another and another. It happens and theyre looking at how to fix it this off-season. There's no way you let him walk.

4) Bennett can leave for all I care. He's still under contract so either they trade him or he's still playing next year. Simple.

To reboot the offense would be foolish when you consider that even with all the injuries they were still around 20th and cutler had his best year ever. Get a couple more playmakers for fangio to let him further improve this defense and you're taking playoff contention next year.

I think you need to re-boot your server.

I agree with keeping the offense basically in tact, adding 2 o-lineman, Kevin White and drafting a QB in the 3-4 round. Then spending the Forte, Bushrod, Allen(?) money and draft picks on D, especially the first 2 rounds.
