Is it being misguided or is it a bit of sarcasm? Or maybe, more truthful than many would want to believe. Have you seen that North Central is among the very best in the Nation in its NCAA divisional level? And has been for years?

As for the Orange Line, there are a bunch of large industrial parcels on that side of town begging for use after the factories closed up and shut down. And Chicago neighborhoods that would love to see a major development come in and bring life back to the area after all the jobs left.

And if the Bears insist on having a dome... it should only be built with the covenant that it will never be closed during Bears games or when the temperature is below 30 degrees. You know... real Bears weather.

Sarcasm or not, comparing a successful D-III program to an NFL team is more than just a bit of hyperbole.

Again, could you site a specific Orange Line location that would have the space and infrastructure that the Bears would need to build a new stadium? Some of our older posters on here may remember the debacle that was Planet Park they were going to build in NW Indiana, near Gary back in the 90s.

And the whole Bear weather thing is so overblown. It was a thing during the Lovie era but meatball Bears fans still think it's relevant today. The whole Bear weather thing got blown out of the water when Brady and the Pats came in here and dominated during a snowstorm.

If you want to dive into Illinois political lore, the answer is simple.

1. Build an airport at Peotone.
2. Close Midway.
3. Bulldoze a great big X on the Soldier Field playing field in the middle of the night.
4. Build Bear stadium on Midway land, with a removable dome, approved by the Legislature in a vote taken after the clock is stopped to avoid a midnite voting deadline.

Way before that. 1988 NFC Championship game.

OK. There are two that immediately come to mind. Both of these tracts are begging for redevelopment and a fresh start:

A large tract on the North Side of West 35th Street and East of California Avenue.

Another large tract bordering the Stevenson on the North and Kedzie on the West.

Or another area in general which is North of the Orange Line and South of I-55 and East of Pulaski.

Keep in mind.... we are talking about redevelopment and not about what is on those lands today. Redevelopment that would take out large old, basically once-industrial tracts of land that you would erase and rebuild whatever you want on it. Any site will require new infrastructure.

Or even more radical... team up with the White Sox organization and build a new baseball-only park for the Sox and the football palace the Bears want that would share common parking lots. On the Southwest Side.

I see some savvy humor beneath the surface there.

Number One will never happen. And shouldn't.

Number Two will never happen. If anything... expand the field because Chicago needs a close-in airport and not one out in the sticks.

Number Three should be to re-open Meigs again and look into filing charges.

Number Four was proposed more than once over the years and rejected. There are much more appropriate locations for Da Bears that do not involve closing one one of the busiest airports in the Nation.

And as for the Midnight Clock.. to paraphrase an old political observer... "Illinois ain't ready for reform!..."

This all seems like something the city should have been working on a decade ago or more.

I just do not understand why the city seems so blindsided by the Bears’ move.

time is on the Bears side here. they are in no hurry to get started on the new building. they simply want to create enough doubt about the future of AH property to get the assessment down for real estate tax purposes for the next 5 years.

they are moving there - its really just about a perfect spot. they just dont want to pay 30 million a year for RE tax every year for the next 8 years until its ready to move into. take time, do it right. dont give Cook County any more money that they will just blow on stupid crap anyway

The Bears have been threatening to move outside the Chicago city limits since old boss Richard Daley of the 1960s was in office. Sixty years or more. He famously told the Bears that if they did move outside Chicago that they would catch holy hell if tried to continue to call themselves 'Chicago' Bears. Bears have been pulling this stuff for a long time.

As for why the city was blindsided... of course there is no good reason other than Mayors change and there is no vision or carry-over from one to another.

And the usual 'Do What We Want Or Else We Move The Team!' threats usually work well like the White Sox owner used in 1989 to get a new stadium. Which turned out to be a poorly designed rush job back then when they built the new Comiskey was first opened. Poor upper deck design and bad colors for the seating and other issues which they have been tinkering with for over 30 years.

Yannick Ngakoue to the Bears. 1 year, $10.5 million with $10 million guaranteed.

With how bad the Bears pass rush was last season (Jaquan Brisker led the team in sacks) and how it didn't appear to be improved at all heading into this season, he'll at least give them something resembling a pass rush this season.

Fields isn’t getting hit a lot but the o-line is giving up a lot of pressure.

I think Jones has two holding penalties and a false start in less than three quarters
