Two things stuck out about tonight’s game… - As long as Nico is swinging any kind of bat at all (and he’s swinging a good one right now), he needs to be on the infield. His glove is that good. When he’s out there, the Cubs might have the best defensive infield in the game. - How does a guy with Nance’s physique and velocity go undrafted, go to the Indy leagues, and then not make his MLB debut until age 30? I had to go to his BR page. He didn’t have impressive college numbers, but you see mediocre college players with physical potential drafted in the 20-something’th round all the time. He got signed out of the Frontier League and then had a nice first season in the Cubs’ system in 2016. Got all the way up to AAA, but got hurt. Missed all of 2017. Only pitched 20 innings in 2018, wasn’t great in 2019 as an old AA player, and then obviously didn’t pitch in the minors in 2020. I’ll be curious to see how he does once teams get tape on him. But it’s obvious at first glance why he’s still being given a chance at age 30.
